Hi guys, nealy bi=ought a GR Moto exhaust for my bike as the massive can just doesnt look right too me, but after some resech found a few saying it caused a lot of vibration and torque loss ayt low revs, so my question is, is there a difference in the optional Akra performance? or do I just suck it up and accept the giant shiney lump!

Thanks in advance

Steve

I can't answer your question on the GR Moto can......
I went with a Leo Vince, which I think suits the design language of the bike. I like a loud exhaust but this one is right on the limit of what I would consider acceptable.

It's also an excuse for me to post a photo 📸 of my bike 😁 1000038152.jpg

I'm surprised you didn't mention Lupin Blue being the bestest colour :ROFLMAO:

It depends on just how many other road users you want to piss off. Other than annoying others I can’t think of a single reason to buy a loud exhaust. The one it comes with works perfectly well, as does the one on my pickup, wife’s car, motorhomes and old bike.

My REMUS is actually quieter on the run than the BMW standard and is certified / approved for road use. According to my wife, partially deaf and use ear plugs. I just like the look of it better than the BMW item. Purchased second hand in very good condition. I would never pay £800 one.

I'm not really sure of the question but I have an SC Project on my 1250. With the cat and flapper still there it is not too teribly loud, only when on the gas hard. It does save much weight and looks better being much smaller. I carry a large tool kit and this weight is negated by the weight savings of the SC Project. It runs very well with excellent throttle response ...... It's stupid fast really .... lol

Unless you remove the cat, you'll notice little difference.

Depends on whether you have a 1200 or 1250. The shiftcam motor has little in the way of valve overlap on the low-end cams so the exhaust can't really affect the tune.

But the stock can is a big heavy thing.

I'm not looking for a loud exhaust or mega performance, (if i want that i shold buy anothe GSXR1000) More astetics for me. Yes it is a shiftcam 2024. Thia report was left about GRmoto exhaust on another forum.

Disclaimer: this review is subjective to the suitability to R1250RS and does not apply to other machines

First impressions:

Packaging was excellent with the fitting in their own box in foam and velvet cut outs. Gave the appearance of a much more expensive can. Came with some nice extras such as tank protector, tire valve caps, key ring and these were very good quality.

Exhaust looked well made and good quality also.

Fitting:

Straight forward swap from the standard can. Some adjustments to get it to line up with the bracket and seemed to turn inwards a little, but was happy with how it fitted.

Quality after use:

Noticed some discolouration towards the end of the can. Was turning a bronze brown which I assume was heat damage. Also could see some threads of the packing were coming out near the baffle. There was also some degradation of the seal after a 1k miles which was a concern

Sound:

Didn’t sound bad, just don’t think it suited the bike. Had an agricultural grown to it. Love to pops on deceleration but tick over and acceleration just sounded wrong. The standard can does well to disguise the fact it’s a big twin.

Performance:

Never expect big gains from an end can. To get noticeable gain required full system, mapping and air box modifications. I did however notice a change in performance with this can though. Low and mid range lost a noticeable amount of torque, maybe even at higher revs also. Bike was spluttery at low revs making throttle response jerky meaning I was having to hold lower gears at higher revs to get a clean response. What was also noticeable was the vibration from this exhaust. Pillion described it as a shin rattler and I could also feel the vibration when riding. More noticeable when accelerating from low revs. Only benefit in performance was the sprung weight reduction.

Conclusion:

This can has 5 star reviews, but I don’t think it’s suitable for the R1250RS. Looked worn out after a month (1800 miles), reduced performance, didn’t sound right, and introduced vibration to the smooth ride.

And not road legal in Europe. Akra,Remus are all road legal. Switzerland, Austria, Germany even France starting enforcing noise regulations. Never got pulled over abroad. Yet.

Thanks, that was my fear, rather keep std but just hate the look of it! :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Ive found a couple of Remus Exhausts but how do you tell if they are race or road legal? some say hexagonal ones are road, some say needs EC mark, where are the markings on the cans?

Should be clearly marked on the can with a E and some numbers, also the seller should have the certificate.

It'll say in the blurb.

They need either the British kite mark or the EU mark on the silencer to be road legal in the UK. As above the EU mark has an E followed by some numbers to identify the country and contained in either a box or circle

Did they do a satin finish on Std exhaust? Id be happy just to lose the chrome finish. Doesn't seem to much about 2nd hand thats road legal. Remus and Akra out my price range at ghe moment. Found this Leo Vince on E-Bay but a little skeptical. 286363594611

I quite liked the standard exhausts on my GSA 1200/RS1200 and RT1250. They all looked fine and gave as good a grumbly boxer growl as some after market ones I've heard. Little in the way of any power advantages changing them and any weight saving is a moot point on bikes weighing 240-270Kg anyway as they all kick out plenty of low down torque. I understand some want the looks and what weight savings are on offer but just eating a few less pies will save most of us more weight than swapping end cans:hide
