The Akrapovič headers which I recently bought on here went on the bike today, courtesy of the relatively young and talented Ghiribizzo. I've long since given up lying on a cold garage floor and anyway, he's breaking a Goldwing Aspencade on my ramp. Anyone want any parts...? :augie

I now see why Mark Hooton is selling a deflector plate to prevent the exhaust gases melting the number plate. See attached pic... I'm going fit an illegally small number plate.

The pipes I bought didn't come with any kind of cover for the joint between the headers and the can. Neither the cover off the original exhaust nor the carbon fibre one that comes with the BMW Akrapovič can will do the job. I've not been able to find anything online. What do other folks have fitted?

Also, has anyone experienced any difficulties with officers of the law or MOT testers in respect of sound levels or spitting flames? I suspect that I need to inform BMW Motorcycle Insurance of the change.

I think I'll also bung the GS and my XCountry in a van and take a trip down to Hilltop. I'll get the GS flashed and they've offered to run the XCountry on the dyno since I'm not convinced that having it Hilltopped at my local Motorrad dealership has been entirely successful.

In passing - a wee plug for Speedycom Performance Ltd in Chapel-en-le-Frith for supplying a Servo Buddy to fool the ECU into thinking the exhaust flap motor is still connected. Ian Carson, the owner tells me that he's a friend of Geoff's at Hilltop and is also able to upload the Hilltop software onto customer's bikes.

The headers should have come with a metal heel guard. Ask the seller if they’ve got it lying around somewhere. I had mine powdercoated black.

It would appear not. :nenau Any comments on the other stuff, Nutty...?

I always fit a smaller plate to my bikes as a matter of course. Standard U.K. plates look massive. Never had any bovver from the rozzers for the plate, or the noise!

You should not have flames coming out of the end can, something is wrong somewhere. I have never seem flames coming out the back of a GS and I have ridden behind quite a few with full systems.

Its a prototype, his young mechanic knows his stuff.........

I have a full system GSA and I've never had any comment from the police but I do have a partly melted number plate on one side. Not a big enough deal to change.

Haha mine did the same - spitting fire and popping!!

I put a carbon cover from another Bmw over and it looks OEM, I’m afraid your going to have go to a dealer and look as I have no idea which bike it came off

The ECU will learn the new exhaust and make adjustments.

No I don't think it will, not entirely. It'll only do that when it's running closed loop and even then when the fuelling that it requires is within the parameters of the existing fuel map + trims. At WFO and somewhere below that, it's running open loop and therefore fuelling completely from the map + trims. There's therefore a risk that when the engine is being worked hard it will be fuelling too lean with the risks which accompany that condition.

I agree - I have an Akro full system but before I rode it far I had a visit to Hilltop for a re-map ro reduce the lean running issue. You run the risk of burning valves if its not adjusted as I understand it.

PS - runs beautifully now, smoother and more grunt and no flames!

That pic is cool OP.
