Chance of purchasing a Akrapovic end can, question is, it's off 2008 GSA Single cam and mines a 2012 GS Twin cam .... will it fit with or without the Flappy valve ?

Your wisdom gratefully received.

Nope - headers are different lengths. You would need the complete system, which apparently works well and looks good.

get some headers from a single cam ,throw the flappy flapper away and it will go on

There isn't a "flappy flapper" on the single cam that was added to the twin cam

This is very true...I have an SC and my Stock Headers, (although currently lurking in the Loft) are definitely Flappy Flapper-less!!

But the OP has a TC, so it will have a "flappy valve" - he just won't need it if he uses the older complete system.
Or have I misunderstood what he was asking :nenau

He wasn't planning to use the complete Older System, he wanted to use an Akrapovic Can from a 2008 on his Stock 2012 Headers

yes thats true .but the op thread says his is a twin cam, hence use headers from a single cam ditch his flapper from his bike and use the aftermarket can

Thanks all for the input, decided not to go ahead with this purchase and wait for the correct CAN that fits a 2012 GS TC appear on this site or somewhere. Thanks again.

Good decision. I recall there was much HooHaa about prices for the "free" Akra cans that were offered as part of the give away package to shift both the TC GS and GSA. I sold my new one for £375 posted and they seemed to settle at £350 - £400 for new ones. Several years down the line, used should be down to £200 ish.

I have to say that I thought the Akra can sounded awful and the AC Schnitzer (Remus Hexecone) was much better, being smaller, looked better suited and didn't need a separate hanger. Matched to Akra headers, this can and a fettle from Geoff (Hilltop) resulted in a great sounding and performing machine. I miss it a little.......

The Remus Hexacone has a smooth deep sound that will rip when you wind it up but is perfectly civilised at town speeds.

Just recap the SC and TC bikes all have the same exhaust stubs and mounting points. So the full system from a SC will fit a TC and Vicky Verky but headers and cans won't mix n match.

Sent somehow.

Decide what it is that you want from a different exhaust.
Changing the silencer will make little or no difference. You may even loose power. Most are obviously LOUDER. If it's just an increase in exhaust noise that you're after, knock yourself out. I had a system on for a couple of days and couldn't stick the racket.
Change the headers and you will get a modest increase in performance. Although some believe it just moves the power higher up the rev range.
If you want to have the performance that you always believed the R1200GS should have had, save your pennies for a Hilltop re map or a pair of AF-XiED units.
Various arguments for these two options exist on this very forum.
Independent tests have shown that the standard system might be ugly in some people's opinion, but it's one of the most efficient in terms of power output and noise.

The Remus has larger diameter header pipes and no balance pipe. It should boost top end and lose a bit at bottom end.
I have an Akraprovic Ti system with smaller headers that taper out to a larger diameter. I believe they intend to make the odd length headers behave like equal length pipes. My back side dyno noticed a clear power increase over Remus headers and OEM silencer can.
The OEM silencer is loud without the catalyst and while the Akra isn't quiet, I use noise blocking ear plugs so neither sounds loud to me. Increased noise (if any) wasn't affecting my performance judgment.

Then I fitted the Power Commander and performance lept up right across the rev range. I had useful power below 2000 rpm and at the top end it really flies.

I'm sure AF-XIEDs or a remap would be at least as good and probably better still.
If you want a performance pipe there's not much point if it's not remapped as well. Hilltop Geoff warned me against fitting a full flow pipe without OEM map because it will run too weak. He said the OEM map is borderline too weak to be safe at some throttle settings.

That's just reminded me, bendy.
There was some talk a while ago as to the purpose of BMW going to the additional expense of including a balance pipe and there were various theories.
Was reading an article recently that said the purpose of the balance pipe is to reduce vibration.
With your current quest for more smoothness, would that have any bearing on it?
I noticed an increase in vibration when I tried the sports system without a balance pipe, but put it down to the increase in exhaust noise. Now I'm not so sure.
