Akrapovic headers verses de-cat standard headers

Bike porn at it's finest!!

He he :D
I've tried the rest so for my current bike I thought I'd try the best, the fit and finish is the best I've seen, yes they cost more but maybe they will also be worth more if/when the time comes to re-fit the std headers if/when trade in time comes, in the meantime the Akra's finish is holding up well, they are performing well and sound great, nice big pic so you can see the quality of the welds.........forgot to include the rubber sleeved stainless springs in this shot but can take another for Ghost Rider ;)

like I said its each to there own, the akras are nice, if you like the look, as has been said already you pay the premium for the name more than anything, your pics show exactly what I was getting at, the akra pipework just looks raw/unfinished and, mite have nice welds, but how many of them is there:blast, as I said it looks like a load of scaffold poles held together with springs:blast, the bulge in the link pipe across the front, what the fook is that all about, it aint even the same diameter as the rest of it:blast, the look of the keihans just flows more easy on the eye, same diameter all the way thru, nicer "polished" finish, where the two into one meets under the gear box, the joint just flows with a really nice shape to it, in my opinion just a nicer finished product full stop:thumb2 no matter how you try and justify paying the premium you have for akras, its definatly a personal choice thing, you either want one or the other, simple as that, as I said, both achieve the same outcome, just some like to think some are better because of the name:blast

I have Remus headers on mine, as that's what the previous owner fitted. If it was me, I'd decat the original headers and get them welded up. But then I don't have the money for posh aftermarket headers.

Yes Steve, they are at least as good as Akrapovic. They are made in Redditch from high grade stainless and hand welded by a chap called Steve so how can they not be:nenau

What do back-to-back dyno runs, comparing a set of Keihan headers with a set of Akrapovič headers on the same bike say? Surely that's the measure of how good they are.

I spoke to Keihan today and they would very kindly make the exit pipe a little longer to remove the need for a link pipe and go straight into the end can - 1 less join..

Anyone got some pics of the Keihan headers please?

Thx

If chrome plate is your thing go for it, I prefer high grade stainless steel which requires no polish and no maintenance, the bulge in the link pipe as you put it......is there because the joints are push fit and require no clamps the tolerances are that good, I am wasting my breath and key strokes it's apparent you have never seen a set of AKRA headers in the flesh so to speak, happy with my choice and confident these are among the best after market headers available, what is you don't like about springs :D

you obviously havnt read what I actually said:blast, both keihan and akras are high grade stainless, keihans are not chrome plated, they are polished stainless, and you can spout all you like about akra headers, go ahead, you bought em,you like em, that's all that matters, I prefer the keihans again that's my choice, I wouldn't want to push anyone either way really, but you cant deny that its pretty hard to convince someone why the akras cost what they do, when the keihans cost a lot less, do exactly the same job:D, and I do feel that if keihan headers were publicised as much as akrapovic, I cant help but think more people would go that route, but again that just an opinion, as for the springs, its not just the springs I don't like if you actually read what I put, but come on, they are a bit pointless, when it could all be made in one:blast:augie

Calling Sgt Bilco ..... :shout

Are there any plans to make header pipes for the 2013< LC bikes ???

:beerjug:

The other big difference between the Keihans and the Akrapovic is the former are a smaller bore, I'll leave it there.................;)

I don't know whay this has turned into a "mine is better than yours" thread but I guess that's the way things go sometimes. Both are high quality products for differing reasons I guess and it's a matter of personal preference as to why you by one or the other.

The Keihans are the same bore as the OEM headers as when they were first done, Keihan decided the BMW R&D department built them like that for a reason and could see no reason to change this!! I'm sure Akra will have their reasons for making the bore bigger.

Not sure of their plans for the WC Giles but I'll find out:thumby:

This is gettin childish now, and I aint gettin into that, the only difference I can see between the two (that matter) are personal choice and for most budget, after that it really is negligible whether youd see a difrence anywhere else, anyway, ive put my two penith worth in, so ill say no more!

"This is also my opinion but I'd just drill and chip away at the cat - no cutting and welding!"

You're going to find that very difficult. Much easier to cut it, break out the CAT and re-weld it. I've done it both ways.:D

Ye, I broke one out once on a 1200, using the hammer and a long bar method workin thru the hole/outlet at the cat, what a bastrd of a job that is, as said if your gonna go this route id also get it cut open and re-welded

The Akra headers are actually available cheaper than the K's at the minute.

I think I'd give a slight nod to the Akra's, but both at full price I'd save and go for the K's

If the same sale price was available for the 10-12 Akra pipes I'd have bought them instead of going for the Remus version.

I Had Keihans on my 56 plate and can vouch for the quality. These has a couple of thousand shitty winter miles on them before this pic was taken and they hardly even yellowed.

I've now got Remus on my TC and they are nearly brown after 500 miles. I did get a good deal on them, but sort of wishing I'd gone with Keihans again

In 1979 I bought a new R100RT. In about 1984 I bought a full Keihan exhaust system for it. I still have the bike, & I still have that full system. I have several times removed it & had it polished on a polishing wheel, & it comes up like new. Quality
