Anyone managed to fit Akra' headers effectively from new and had the OK from their dealer regards not affecting the warranty?

I'll fit them if I can keep the warranty, failing that will have to make do with just the tail pipe, as the headers I'm sure they'll say need a re-map (plus K&N) so that's the issue I guess..

Cheers

Things to consider
Does BMW sell the aftermarket part or equivalent?
Re-mapping if only it was so easy. BMW I believe will not support this.
You could always remove headers for any warranty work - not helpful if broken down somewhere and recovered.
Same for any after market fuel adjustment (axfied)
Wait until bike out of warranty.

Hey its a BMW it will never go wrong :D

I don't think the Akra' headers are available through them.

I've no intention of challenging my warranty ahead of time, so will check with the dealer before doing anything.

Cheers

There was a letter in this months Motorcycle Sport and Leisure from a legal eagle. Bloke asked a similar question. The reply basically stated, that if you change anything from the manufacturers standards ie fitting anything that the dealer doesn't supply that requires mapping or removal of cat. Not only is the warranty duff, but the bike is illegal. Interesting thought :)

So for the slight power gain it's simply not worth it then.

No issues I'll spend the dosh on riding instead!

Anser is simple BMW not sell so no warranty, BMW sell is cover with warranty, I have af-XIED and take my chance, but will remove before year service, only 15 minute work, and then put back on, if break on road, will remove before I call BMW truck, this you cannot do with header.

I don't have detailed knowledge about UK legislation, but I guess the emission regs. are the same within Europe.
By introduction of the Euro 5 emission regs. the one of the additions to former regs. is that the bike must meet the emission requirements through it's life span, vs Euro 3 that needed the regs. to be met at registration time and Euro 4 for the first 20K km.
I guess this also influence what BMW may offer as optional cans.

Changing the headers is the major issue, as removing the CAT will indeed make the Euro 5 bike illegal for street riding.

if you do it anyway, and manage to handle the potential fault message from #3 O2 sensor, which is checking that the CAT is in working order (and I seem to recall that while -19 1250 had this sensor not activated, it is now active as the Euro 5 was implemented 01.01.2020).
As far as the fueling and engine running too lean, that part is taken care of by the ECU. Thus, whenever you reinstall the BMW header with the CAT installed and clear any error codes in the ECU, no harm has been inflicted to the engine, and I don't think BMW will know that the other header was ever used...

I had Akra headers on my '17 1200 GSA. Bought them from Nippy Normans and has then delivered to/and fitted by my dealer. Never had any issues over warranty and/or other dealings with them while I had the bike. Took them off and sold privately when I bought my current 1250.

Did you try and take out the extended warranty?

Hi, Yes I did take out the extended warranty through the same dealer and no issue at all.

Strange ,my dealer said if its not a BMW aftermarket part your not covered ,have you got it in writing as they were pretty adamant about it when i asked about the headers.

I was refused the extended warranty because of the Akra headers transferred to my '17 bike from my '14 bike. Both bikes had warranty work done on them at the dealer with the headers fitted within the initial two year warranty. I think once it is out of the dealers hands and into an insurance companys hands it is purely a numbers game.

No, I didn't get anything specific in writing as the purchase of the extended warranty was all done online. However, before I sold the bike I did have a couple of warranty claims on the extended cover that I had bought and no issues whatsoever?? I have a very good relationship with my local dealer and have used them since 2015 when we moved into the area.

I guess when asked if there were any modifications, you said no.

Just to add to my original question, that I have now removed the baffles from the Akra can and it is fruity let's say, so any more noise could be a bit much.

The headers will require a remap too & the dealer is wise to this fact, so I'll leave my shiny chrome ones alone for the time being.
