Hi, prior to getting my 09 gs remapped in the summer I was thinking of fitting a full akrapovic 2-1-2 system (with 2 round stacked silencers) but was wondering if
1. The system is uk road legal
2. Will I still be able to get the vario pannier on .
3. Could the lean running once fitted damage anything on the 100 miles or so to hilltop.
Many thanks Gary

Why 2:1:2 and not 2:1:1?

Two silencers are twice the weight and plumbing for no gain...

I was wanting the two silencer system initially for the look and the fact you don't see many bikes with them fitted.

The system is very light and looks the dog's bits so having two cans is fine. I have no way to test the pipe material, but suspect only the cans are titanium.

Technically it's not road legal but with baffles or even just one baffle it will not be excessively noisy. You can get rivet on plates if having a legal label is really important.

The cans are actually narrow enough to allow two RHS side cases rather than the chopped up LHS case. Sadly Akra decided to angle the cans so they fill the available space.

If its going onto a GSA, you will need two button head bolts and dome nuts for the front carrier frame mount to the footrest. Other than that it fitted fine to my GSA.

BTW its a full system. You cannot use the cans (or headers) with the standard format headers that interchange with other silencers.

1. No....but it sounds lush
2. Yes.....Er Yes it will.
3. No.....very very unlikely.

I asked Hilltop before I fitted my shotgun system. He said, 95RON petrol, free flow air filter with any free flow exhaust will risk burnt exhaust valves. Remove any one of these and the engine ECU will be able to deliver correct fuel mixture.

I have a standard air filter and always use posh petrol. I still haven't got around to having the remap done and engine is running fine. Its probably done 10K with the Akra system fitted. It was a bit too rippy for me without baffle(s). Nice though :cool

Regardless of all this, I'm seriously thinking about replacing all exhaust valves at around 60K as (I hear) done with air heads.

Tried this

I bought the full 2-1-2 system off here spent ages cleaning and polishing it.

It looked fantastic on with no Vario`s but was it LOUD.

Sold it before I even had the fuel injection redone.

Just like everyone with a small number plate, fell off tax disc, HID headlight, etc?

In common with most aftermarket pipes, the Akra system is LOUD without baffles. One baffle in one silencer can makes a big difference. One in each and it burbles in a very muted way. Mine has both, makes less noise than the standard dustbin silencer and passes the MOT no problems.

Edited but says much the same

No, none of those would warrant a charge of Perverting the Course of Justice. However, attaching a fake E mark to your silencer would. To be fair, I suspect that you're unlikely to get nicked for that. However, passing an MOT isn't the issue. Unless your exhaust has an E mark or BS AU193 stamp, it doesn't comply with Construction and Use Regulations and you could be nicked for that, even although you have obtained an MOT with it fitted to your bike. It'd just take one eagle-eyed copper...... Where is Giles when you need him....? :augie

Except for the baffles, I have the plain system as it came out of the box but will take my chance. Just like everyone else does with the HID bulbs in non HID headlights They also contravene construction and use regs

Have you not seen my avatar .... :P

Mneh :nenau .... I tell yer what .... traffic policing is becoming a thing of the past nowadays. Every force is having their budgets seriously cut and things like proactive traffic work is just out the window. (Can't speak for all the forces of course..).

You'll still of course get a traffic car attend an injury accident on a 'fast' road, but with the accident rate consistently falling, Chief Constables are carefully picking and choosing where their money goes. CRIME !!!!! So whilst burglary and the like will get the forces full attention, you'll seldom see a road check these days checking small number plates, dodgy visors and shotgun exhausts .... :thumb2

Oh well that's it then - I'm going to put the race wets that are sitting in the garage onto the GS......:thumb

I used to be acquainted with someone** who claimed to have run his bike for 2 years with no number plate attached and got stopped twice with no recriminations. It was often parked in full view with the bracket sitting there all free from any sort of yellow and blackness.

** He wasn't a mate and I moved away.

Thanks for the info and decided to go for the Akrapovic titainium single silencer complete with headers just to avoid any possible problems with jobs worth coppers, mot inspectors and complaints from the neighbours as I leave for work at 6am.
