Hi All

So 2011 30 years GS edition adventure with the enduro style bash plate under the engine...
Fitted a full Akrapovic system (stainless headers, titanium can) this evening but cant seem to get the plate/guard to fit properly again, anyone else had the same issue and if so how did you get around it (other than leaving the guard off which is how mine is currently)
I'm thinking of slotting the mount holes a bit as I think it just needs to move forwards a bit for clearance?

Thanks
Ben

Have never fitted the Akra headers but would imagine there should be no problem with the bash plate.
Check over how you've installed it. You haven't tried to put the bash plate on back to front?
I'm sure someone who has the same headers will be along soon.

Not quite the same Issue as you but I fitted Akra Headers to my 2008 GSA and couldn't get the Cymarc Crud Catcher Plate to fit properly.
I went back to Cymarc who kindly supplied me with 10mm longer Spacers / Bolts and the Problem was solved.
Maybe Akra Headers are slightly different in Size or Fitting Position to Stock....

The bash plate back end is mounted on rubber bobbins. You can get them on eBay for 2p each. Get some with a male/female threads then you can fit spacers between bash plate and rubbed mount. The front has a steel bracket space that off the plate in similar ways.

Alternatively leave the plate in the shed. It's only window dressing.

Thanks I thought about spacing it but looked as if it needed to move forwards slightly as well, will take another look though.

Sorry I'd not see the link to your bash plate (a handsome job BTW). You will need to move it forwards and you may find that it looks off-centre even when it's correct. My Akra headers are further from the engine on the right than the left.

Cool looks like the plan, looking at it again I'm sure the link pipe isnt straight with the face of the engine which I think is most of the issue as it means the bash plate then hits on the front left corner, it also catches on the downpipes as they bend at a slightly different angle but hopefully all can be sorted with moving it forward and maybe spacing it down a few mm each way.... see what I can sort :)

The Akra pipes are made to balance the gas flows left & right so are not symmetrical, hence non-level balance pipe. They should fit equally alongside the engine but often do not.

Works for me anyway, bike and engine are sooooo much smoother since I fitted the full system :beerjug: although a bit loud for my liking at the mo probably get used to that though or go back to wearing earplugs.... ;)

I have the stacked twin cans system and no baffles. It's loud at full chat, but at 70mph, I get more noise off the front tyre. That however is enough to need rear plugs.

I *could* get the Power Commander reworked so it would run correctly with one (or two) baffles, but frankly its not that bad and around town its only loud if I choose to open it up.

agreed mine drones a bit at that kind of speed but quiet enough at lower speeds - on PR4s at the mo so they are quite quiet, may try it with the baffle in at some point but dont want to mess the XIED's learning up by changing it just yet (I reset all adaptations when fitted and only done 100 miles so far) I suppose it may quieten down a bit as its running pretty rich at the moment.

It's likely to get louder when the mixture is correct. You might as well fit a baffle(s) and let the AF-XiEDs adapt to that.

I fitted 30mm dia straight baffle with M5 screw and spacer washers. Being (a lot) smaller than the outlet it does not plug the pipe but will fit down the angled end stub.

IMO angled baffles that fit the pipe outlet are too restrictive. They plug up the system negating the benefit of a better flowing header.
