I spoke to bm today about a new exhaust,
the guy told me they have an offer at the mo
on the akrapovic £585 fitted, I asked about some of the other
after market stuff, but as i suspected it could invalidate my warranty,
Iknow they are a bit lighter,my question is is worth it an how do they sound?:beerjug:

Anyway, on either model. Just fitting a Silencer Can, won’t give you any significant extra horsepower. Maybe a little more noise and less weight is all that is gained.

Your dealer is talking bollox though, regarding voiding your warrantee. The two dealers that I use. Don’t have any problem. In fact, when I traded up form a GS to a my current GSA. They took my Remus/Akra full system off the old bike and fitted to the new one for me.

For best results, chuck some de-cat headers on there (Remus or Keihan etc.).
that'll also save weight and give a very significant performance boost.

MMm stevie 73 said thats bollox as well, i asked vines an cannons an they both said more or less the same, that if i had a engine or performance problem bm could to tell me to get stuffed, oh what to do:blast

I have an Akrapovic on my '06 GS. The can is much lighter and more svelte than the OE one. Without the baffle it sounds fantastic, but low speed running is a bit rough (I haven't bothered with the remap). With the baffle in, it runs very nicely and sounds a bit louder than the OE can.

I'm currently on my 4th new GS/GSA now, and i've had full aftermarket exhausts on all of them. The dealers that I use (Bristol Motorrad and Cotswold BMW) have honoured all of my warranty claims (mind you I’ve never had any engine problems:augie).

However, the newer Boxer engines do run quite lean. So fitting a full system might just make it run a bit too lean.

But IMHO, just fitting a Can (most any Can), wont do any harm at all.

i agree i cant see why they wouldnt carry out warranty work just because of an aftermarket can

for those who went aftermarket can on GS, did you have any issues with extra heat on the plastic Vario panniers?

I have Vario panniers on my GSA (transferred from my previous GS).
Never had any issues with exhaust heat. The nearside box has a Metal heat shield.
However, the end of my Akra can has gone blue, due the heat.
Which is nice.

My remus full system has melted through the metal protection plate on the pannier and put a small hole in the box.. I only use the panniers when touring with the missus, so no big deal. Its a shame its always her things that smell of exhaust fumes ................................

Personally, I'd spend the cash on some suspension work. You'll hardly notice the difference with a different can. Bouncies make a real difference.

May not be so good for posing though...

The heat is caused by the headers not the pipe. An aftermarket pipe will make no difference.
