Just wondering if anyone had put this system on their GS, and whether it is worth it. is it road legal?

Also, what do you guys think of the 990 KTM?

CHOICE: GS or KTM :nenau

need help and opinions.. ... Any suggestions for '04 R1200GS approx. 24K with extras against new KTM 990 adv?

am i mad to consider it?

thanks

Yes, you are mad to consider the KTM. Don't let all the negative reports of the GS put you off. The GS is a great bike. A forum like this is bound to bring the worse out in people/bikes. And don't waste your time with the Akropovic. The trade off between HP/£notes, aint worth it. Spend the money on petrol and tyres and get riding! You wont regret it!

All a matter of personal opinion of course, and mine is exactly the opposite in respect of the Akropovic, worth every penny, because it isn't just a matter of HP/£notes, if it was, I would have to agree.

motomax in Dublin are official KTM dealers. They service the bikes. I rode both 1200 GS, 1200 GS Adventure and KTM 990 pretty much back to back and must say that i loved the GS's and couldnt fault them but the KTM had a little more of an 'X' factor. Don't know what but was great to ride.

The choice is between the GS or KTM 990 :nenau

have to choose soon otherwise i'll go mental  .

Anyone gone from the GS to KTM or otherway round. Be very greatful for any comments.

Seems we could have the same converation on a couple of threads Will,

I say this having yet to ride the KTM but if you've ridden them and still can't choose this is the way I'd see it (and am likely to soon);

BMW warranty is second to none (despite some of the stories on this site, I'm sure of it - I've successully claimed beyond the period twice).

The dealers behave better (again see above)

Less maintenance involved

i own a 1200 and its great(up for sale)but i test rode the 990 on sat and it really is very good ,grin from ear to ear. :bounce1

Insurance quote on the 990 is savage. They have it rated as a grp 16 bike? Is this correct. Just got off the phone with Carole Nash UK.

Test rode the KTM 2 weeks ago. Jumping straight off the GS it felt smaller,
lighter but also a bit quicker. The one big negative was the snatchy throttle
or fuel injection. the slightest bump on the road and it was reflected right through to the throttle. This would be hard to live with.
The dealer told me that he wasn't meant to let any customers ride the bike
until it had at least 500 miles onit after which the snatchiness would reduce.
Getting back on the GS it just seemed "sorted" in comparison.
