I have a 2010 R1200GS Adventure (latest spec).

The bike is my only means of transport and it gets used 365 days a year (366 days this year!).

It is a workhorse, but I have kept it clean, and had ACF50 professionally applied by allyearbiker twice a year since new, so it still looks shiny (underneath the crud!). The only part of the bike that shows signs of corrosion are the headers and exhaust system where the ACF50 quickly burns off.

I was wondering if a full titanium Akro header and exhaust would stay looking better for longer, and if it is worth the outlay from both a performance and cosmetic perspective. What are your views?

If I do chose to invest, where is the best place to go? I use Vines South London for servicing and they seem decent chaps, plus being a BMW dealer my warranty would be safe.

Alternatively, do you have any other suggestions?

Hi I have a R1200 GS and put a full system on it

When I brought the bike it had the standard exhaust on which I removed to clean and i was shocked how much it weighed it also had 2 cats in it which restricts performance.

I asked at my local BMW dealer if they knew of any second hand systems for sale luckly they had one which they had taken off a part exchange bike, so I got a stainless Remus front end with a Akro Ti silencer fully road legal and sounds great also saves 8Kg, the Akro front end is very expensive and is no different to cheaper makes BUT go for a Akro silencer as that does make a differance

Sorry about the lenght of the reply but i have more info on this subject if you are interested:

You will never get exhaust to stay shiny unless you are prepared to really keep on top of them.

I sell the Keihans which are made from high grade stainless. They will go brown but will come up nicely with a bit of elbow grease and Solvol Autosol.

The real benefit from de catted headers is an increase in power. The end can doesn't really do anything but make more noise.

HTH

I am not bothered about it being shiny. I like to keep my bike clean and presentable, but not concourse clean. A quick spray with SDOC100, a hand wash and rub down every now again, but no toothbrushes or polishing involved!

My issue is that the chrome factory headers are going rusty and pitted, Autosol won't work and I don't have the inclination to polish them regularly. I want something that won't rust, but I don't mind about the finish otherwise. Happy for discolourisation, just not decay, hence I was thinking about titanium.

I have 2 R1200GS bikes.
05- GS with BOS full system: sounds great with DB killer out headers get tatty looking very quickly.
2010- GSA full Akro DB in its about as loud as the BOS setup but with a bang bang sledge hammer beat, finish is good and durable, deffo would not use it with DB out.
A bit annoying on the motorway unless you have ear plugs.
Ideal for me would be: As is for commuting, running around and track days. quiet for long motorway trips.

Yes I do.

Highly recommended they are too. They do a full clean and apply using a high pressure spray which does a far better job than the crumby aerosol cans you can buy. I top up using the consumer aerosol every now and again. For the time it takes and the job they do, it is quite a good price actually.

Now, back to these rusty headers.....

The Keihans, like Remus and Akra are stainless so will not rust. They go a brown colour after time which will polish off fairly easily if that is your bag. It's not mine:augie

The chrome headers are pure cosmetic and a waste of time in my opinion.

i'm busy saving ... won't be too long .. :P :thumb2

BMW main dealer quoted £1500 for a full Akro. Nearly fell of my chair!

Any idea where is good around London to get one done independently?

Excluding fitting, these guys are very good in terms of service, £926 for full system with stainless headers or £140 more for full titanium headers.

 That's a lot of money for a name:augie

I run Keihan headers (obviously :D) and Beowulf end can. Brilliant performance and noise for about £500.
