I am having an alarm fitted to my 1150 adventure through Carol Nash i think it is a top line Data Tool Alarm my question is having just had to find space for the autocom unit where is the alarm going to go. my bike does not have abs so could it could go their. has any one had on fitted to their GSA if so how much work do the alarm fitters do and how good are they

FWIW, My datatool box landed up on the left hand side under the tank.
But... who cares where it goes? it has to be fitted by a recognised installer for a) datatool to stand by their warranty if it goes wrong on the bike, and b) for some insurance companies to see it as a properly fitted alarm.

Do they move the tank etc to fit the alarm or are we expected to get the bike ready for them

Tell them not to fit the box, just get the stickers and the flashing led light. Alarms a a pain in the arse, drain your battery, go off when you don't want em to, get ignored when you needed em to and you have to either have the key fob scratchin everythin as you ride, or keep pulling it out of your pocket everytime you stop for 30 seconds.
I'd suggest buying a big dog but they don't ride pillion too well. :D :D :D

Seriously, don't do it, buy a F'in big chain. :thumb

I've had a Datatool alarm fitted to my Adv from Day 1 and not had a single problem with it.....Far from draining batteries, they go into 'sleep' mode with minimal current drain after a couple of days...

I honestly think the problems with alarms mostly come from poor fitting.....use of scotchlocks in inappropriate places for example, lack of care in positioning etc.

Mine sits neatly on top of the ABS gubbins under the tank BTW.......they'll do it all but do try your best to have the tank as empty as you can to make their life easier (and minimise risk of droppage ;) ) and also have a large cushion or soft rug close by for them to put the tank on when they take it off.

If you're around when they install, get them to help you put in the override code at the same time......then if it did go tits up , you can still ride.

I also have a datatool alarm fitted, By B*W. under the tank.

I have the override code for peice of mind, But what i do like about the alarm is the movement sensor, when im away camping with my bike, its nice knowing that if anyone was to touch my bike, the warning bleeps would wake me.

I also have the bike on optimate and this picks up any battery drainage, which i havnt had since the alarm was fitted.

I rate the alarm but always take a chain too for when im out of ear shot.

fitted via carol nash...under tank on left hand side...they do it all...they sort of have people who have worked on whatever bike you have...when guy came, he had just done an adventure the day before, so went striaght into tank removal no probs...

however, the transponders stop working with the alarm...could only start the damned thing by going through manual override....was big waiting time...a month...at local datatool approved bike dealership...so got the snips out...and removed the thing...was the best feeling ever throwing the transponders across the room....

will send it back to datatool to be fixed as it is only a year old...but it still wont be going back on the bike...big dog sounds like the way ahead

Discount on your policy if alarm fitted, £200+ for the alarm and you get £15 knocked of the policy
