I've got an alarm/alarm fob issue on my 09 GS. The bike won't respond top the alarm fobs in any way. I know the alarm is working as it's set to self arm after 30 secs, which it does, and I've checked it. It'll go off if I move the bike.

I've replaced both fob batteries, but still no response from them. I've disconnected the main battery for a day, to reset everything, bit that made no difference.

I'm wondering now if I should change the internal alarm batteries?

You'll get a warning on the dash panel when the alarm unit batteries need changing - they seem to last about 7 years.

Have you synchronised the fob with the control unit after you changed the battery in it? After you change the battery in the fob the LED will be permanently on. It then needs synchronising. You do this by holding the fob within the range of the receiver and pressing the left button twice in succession. The LED should start flashing and then go out - ready for use!

Have there been any changes locally ?

High powered radio transmitters like a taxi cab office next door, or a mobile phone mast etc?

I've had to push a bike with a remote keyfob alarm along a hard shoulder away from a couple of big radio masts in the adjacent field before now.......I had to get 200 yards down the road before the interference would allow the fob signal to 'talk' to the alarm

It sounds unlikely in your case, but it's a remote possibility :thumb2

(did you see what I did there :D)

No not tried this. I did try the ignition on, hold press both buttons for 10 seconds, etc bit to register them, but that had no effect. I hope that hadn't buggered things up?

I'll remove and reinsert the batteries in the fobs again tonight and try as you suggest. Fingers crossed.

No battery warning on the dash.

Ah....a wit I see! 😃

No, no changes locally, and I'm having the problem when out and about also so not a signal interference issue.

Thanks anyway.

The alarm on my 2009 GSA confused me initially. To set with the fob you need to do so within 15 seconds of ignition being turned off. When trying to deactivate the alarm, my fob does nothing, to deactivate it I need to turn on the ignition and it will deactivate automatically. To be honest, the alarm manual isn't particularly easy reading, or maybe I'm just a thick?

Do I win a prize for using the word 'deactivate' 3 times in one sentence?

Better link, no need for registration; view in browser and save.

Yeah, I've got the original manual thanks.

You have to go into a particular mode. Ignition on, press right button 3 times, ignition off, 3 times, etc..... but this all relies on having at least 1 remote that the alarm is responding to, which I don't have. Neither gets any response from the bike.

Tried this. No response at all.

Hmmm........

Ok, after buggering about and trying all sorts I've come to the conclusion that I need to re-register both the fobs with the bike alarm, but it seems from the alarm manual you you need the bike to respond to a fob to enter the registration mode, where, once in, you have to re-register all fobs.

If I can't get the bike to respond at all, to any fob, then how do I enter the registration mode?

I'm stuck, short of a visit to the dealer, but from experience they don't tend to know detail of fiddly little queries like this either.

Anyone have any experience of this, and any ideas on how to go from here?

I haven't looked at my alarm via the GS911 so I'm not sure what that can or can't do. Looking at the website it just mentions that it can read the ECU information about the alarm and read/clear fault codes. I don't know, but maybe there is a fault code condition which is preventing you from getting any response from the fob's. If you know anyone with a GS911 they may be prepared to have a look at that aspect for you? It may tell you the fault or may be clearing it will get the comms working again.
