As an alarm I don't think the BMW alarm is better or worse than any 3 part quality system.
I do however find it quite convenient to be able to use the FOB for activating/deactivating the alarm. The OEM alarm also shuts down before the battery (at 12Ah only) is drained too much, and quite handy to have it integrated to the CANbus, using the bikes lights for visual signaling, and the alarm will be disabled when turning the ignition on. With keyless ignition you may program the alarm to automatic activation (a tedious procedure). When on a trip, the alarm activates automatically, and when you approach the bike for loading again you just turn the ignition on and off, and the alarm is deactivated long enough for you to load the bike with luggage.
The OEM alarm does not have the ultrasonic proximity sensor. What will a proximity sensor do to battery drainage. Will it be a factor to consider?
