Does anyone know if the BMW remote for the alarm is waterproof?:nenau

There's no mention in either manual. The bike is a sept 2010 on a 60 plate if that makes any diufference.

I doubt they would ever make the claim as it being waterproof as that takes a lot of doing i.e. diving equipment.
Best you will get from them is an assurance that its showerproof which lets em off if it fecks up.

I take it you are wondering if it'll be ok on your keys, when its pissing down.
If its the sort with the rubberised buttons - it'll be ok.

Just don't take it in the pool with you.

Yep, it's the one with the rubberised keys. I had the BMW Motorrad key box, but it was too bulky, so I've gone for the lanyard with just the bike key and remote, and wondered if it would be water/ showerproof.

No, it's not waterproof, nor is it water resistant, although if you drop in the toilet it will float.

Damage occurs when it bashed about while hanging out of the ignition.

Put it in you pocket

Hi

My bmw fob (fitted to March 2010) gsa with "buttons of rubber"ooh, has been on my key bunch & in the ignition through all sorts of weather.
l'm not saying l think it's officially shower or waterproof, but no harm so far.

l used to take just the ignition key from the my lanyard, but found on a few occassions l forgot or nearly forgot to take it out and with me, when parked up and going for a brew for example!.:blast

So l started using the "bunch" method which l dont forget !, works for me :augie :pullface

Would it make much difference if it wasn't? :augie The worst that could happen is that you couln't switch the alarm on, as inserting the key into the ignition and switching it on automatically switches off the alarm. :)

Alternatively you can do away with the alarm fob altogether. Just set the alarm to come on automatically when the ignition is switched off. Then when you return to the bike you switch off the alarm as above i.e. insert the key and switch on the ignition. :)

The trouble is that the bike sometimes doesnt get used for weeks at a time, so I dont want to flatten the battery. I'll just have the key and alarm fob on the lanyard, then put the usual bunch of keys in my pocket.

It doesn't rain much in the UK anyway, so I'm sure it will be fine!:rob

That's pretty much what the dealer told me (although they didn't mention the toilet!). That said mine is still on the keyring and I've ridden through some pretty nasty rain and it still works. Seems odd that they don't make it waterproof though as the Datatool one I had for my VFR was.
