Alarm "Tell Tale" LED

Hi all,
Here's one for the more technically minded...
The alarm automatically arms after the ignition is switched off & the key removed.
After a timed delay the flashers blink & the dash tell tale LED starts flashing....nothing strange here, but why after a week of not activating electrical or turning on the ignition, does the LED stop flashing???? You cant tell me that a single diode consumes more that milliamps.

any ideas??

My alarm is armed/disarmed only by the key-fob remote.

After 48 hours the LED will stop flashing.

There is also a point at which the alarm cuts back to immobiliser only to stop the battery getting too low.

All above re:OE alarm on 04 1200GS.

Which means the alarm switches off - every 1200 has an immobiliser.

Seems a bit silly imho. Did they change it to low voltage only in later models?

I may have the superior 05 model!

It does seem strange... wouldn't it of been nice to have the option???? .... when it's in the garage over winter on Optimate.... why does it need to be off.

I think it goes into save-power mode after some period. Can't remember more than that.

Just been into the garage and given her a shake .... sure enough the alarm has deactivated.
I'm sure my insurance company think that when i said i have an alarm fitted they expect it to be on all the time until the batts flat .....not just for 48hours.

Is anyone aware of a workaround for this "characteristic"

AFAIK BMW (motorcycle) alarms are not Thatcham approved, probably because of design features like the power down that is being discussed in this thread.

And as most insurance companies expect Thatcham approval when you insured your bike did you mention that it was not Thatcham approved?

Hardly anyone reads the manuals now adays and worse still hardly ever pass them on to new owners should they sell the vehicle on,same as the tool kit,almost always missing be it car or bike.
