I'm after a quality disc lock that will stop wailing after a short period when activated. Xena are not sold in Turkey, so my options are limited. The ABUS 7000 RS1 Detecto seems a good option, although it's not clear whether it will stop or carry on until the batteries are flat. Has anyone used this lock and can they share their thoughts? If there is a Xena that fits the bill please let me know so I can have my sister bring one over at xmas.

Cheers & happy friday :beerjug:

Had a great visit to Istanbul a couple of years ago :thumb2

The Oxford Screamer may well suit you.

If possible, the best advice is often to also chain the bike securely to something solid if left for long periods. Few people will take any notice of an alarm going off. But it's OK for alerting you.... Assuming you are within easy listening range, of course.

A disk lock is a poor deterrent, it needs to be chained to something unmovable.

Or we should be allowed to shoot theives, you`d only need to report the shooting of half a dozen and then they would get the message.

I used to chain my bike to a pole in the underground car park of my gated compound which had 24 hour security, which people thought was excessive. Now I'm just off downtown Taxim Square with the bike parked on the pavement in front of my apartment. I've got the rear wheel chained to a tree using a chunky Abus lock and a more basic Masterlock through the front. I want an alarmed disc lock as well to prevent scrotes from stealing my aftermarket bars/exhaust etc.

Thanks for the feedback, I like the look of the Xena so will probably go with that.

Wapping, Istanbul is a mad place! I love it here, however, the PM is doing everything in his power to turn this country into any other Arab state.
