I have 2 sets of mens leathers and 1 set of female leathers, all handmade by Albert Dann in Northampton in the very early noughties. The quality is exceptional and they are all in excellent condition and have been stored for over 15 years. One of the men's set has hardly been worn and were a spare set. The female ones were only worn a couple of times (these are not police ones). I appreciate the styling of the men's jackets is a bit dated.

My question is: Are they worth anything or does anyone have any suggestions what to do with them? It seems a shame to give them away although I think that's one of the likely outcomes.

I don’t know the maker of your leathers but looking at the BKS Police leathers they go between £40-75 for the jacket and up to £100 for the suit. I am after the BKS summer perforated jacket. Sizes will be an issue. All made to measure. Hence if you advertise you will need measurements. Good luck with the sell. Police leathers normally have shoulder tabs, and perforated marks on the chest where the Police badge was.
Also very heavy, but a lot of skin is used.

Those that know, know. I had my BKS leathers made in 2005, they’re still like new. I’ve never been in a shop and come across anything I’d swap them for, although I mainly wear textile now.
If I thought there was a market for leathers modelled on a pot bellied orangutan out there, I might have posted for sale but they’re worth more to me than they’d go for. As suggested already, if you really want to get rid of them take the measurements and some pics and just see?
Failing that, add a gimp mask, put it all on, and post them on a fetish site, I’m sure they’d go for a lot more than here.

Thanks for the responses. I will measure them and advertise them. As much as I would like to keep them, as they are brilliantly made, for some reason they seem to have shrunk over the years and I can't wear them comfortably anymore! But as you said Poncherello, those that know, know. I too haven't seen anything like them quality-wise in a shop over the years. They're also incredibly heavy so would probably cost more to post if someone did buy them than they would sell for :).

I wished for a set of Hideout leathers and one day I picked up a made-to-measure jacket and trousers for £75 at a bring and buy sale. I went into the little boys room to try them on and they seemed a pretty good fit.

I took the pair back to the ladies at Hideout and you can guess at what it cost to take apart and re-make a triple-stitched, racing-standard touring suit. Embarassingly, they could remember the gentlemen for whom they had originally been made.

Well, it was almost 10x what I paid at the sale. It was either that or throw them out - which was obviously a viable alternative - but I'm soft in the head :).

This is why it it is so difficult to put a value on custom-made leathers.

I had a set of those for work many, many years ago.

On the plus-side, when you were wearing them, it felt like you could survive a direct hit from a nuclear missile.

On the down side, they were sooooooo hot in the summer months. I had a couple of occasions when I'd been wearing them for long days when I literally had heat stroke, they are so substantial.

As with leather generally, they were still not warm at all in the winter riding months.

I still remember the look of surprise on the store lady's face when I left work and was offered them to me for a nominal amount of cash and turned them down!
