This morning, I dug out my '06 GSA from the garage where it has sat since early November.

Started first time, having sat untouched on on Optimate charger, connected straight to the battery. Seems to put the lie to the oft heard theories that Optimates

(i) Do not work properly.

(ii) Shouldn't be left on 24/7.

(iii) Will fry the bike's electrics, if the battery is not taken out.

No sign of any corrosion. It got covered in salt, just before going away. I blasted it quickly with a jet wash, just before putting it away, dripping wet.

The only thing that seems to have happened is that the front tyre pressure has dropped to 25 and the rear 30, not the heady 32 / 36 it went away at.

I away at work six months out of the year and my 1200 is left plugged into the Optimate wired directly to the battery during that time and I've had no problems:nenau

I thought that the Optimate (and Bee Emm's own brand charger) sense whats in the battery and top up as required ?

Every bike I've owned for the last 10+ years has had an Optimate wired direct to the battery and left permanently connected and switched on when bike in garage.

During that time I've had not one electrical problem or ever had to replace a battery.

...........yep they're fit and forget - unlike certain OEM items :)

I never use a battery charger on my 1200GS and the battery never fails to perform its duties.

If for some reason I ever needed to charge the battery, I would first remove it from the bike.
