Made me look into getting a camera for the bike shed. Got a wifi camera with IR that I can view from my phone or iPad and it also tells me if anything moves or makes a noise. Seems pretty good and a nice bit of peace of mind if I hear a noise during the night, I can just check my phone!
Here she is all tucked up, ignore the Harley posters, they're from a previous life.

I got a FLIR FX camera. About £130 I think, kind of got mine through work! Think there are other cheaper ones on the market.

Not much use if they're hoodies; and hitting the little dears can end up with you eating prison food or worse stabbed.

And no I don't practice what I preach.

What camera have you got? Think I might get one so I can check on my baby!

FLIR FX. Even tells you the temperature and humidity! Once it's activated by noise or motion it records for a minute and sends the footage to the cloud and you can view it from phone or tablet. You can also look at the camera live even if it's not recording.

Agreed but at least it gives you a chance to say ring the old bill (then wait..& wait) or depending on the circumstances maybe move a car say to block off an escape route. I shouldn't be negative ref the police I was 20 mins away from my house when a neighbour rang to say I'd had an attempted burglary time I got there the place was swarming with cops & helicopter over head.

I had attempted theft of my Triumph last year, around 1600 broad daylight. Unfortunately I saw the little loves, who failed to realise I have two separate gates to my rear garden.

One escaped the other got hit by 14 stone of very angry motorcyclist, who even at 50+ years can still move faster than a three toed sloth when the needs must.

9 cops + a dog van, later 6 nayer do wells from Woodburn were caught. The cops were trying to work out who I am, must be vvip, as they never get resourced like this. Good result for them, they were able to do their jobs properly.

The main one I was asked later was, what would you have done if he'd tried to stab you with a knife or worse a needle ?

I know it sounds cool and hard to say how you'd beat them up, but just think for a second is your life really worth less than a hunk of metal and plastic ?

How would you feel losing your job, family and getting a criminal record and then the little twat gets compensation on top for what you did to him.

I'm not saying this to be controversial, just trying to be honest.

Get friendly with a pig farmer problem solved ;)

Quick lime, leaves less evidence.

After 20+ years working for auntie bettie where she felt my presence would aid positive reconstruction, I have no issue with the application of appropriate force.

The bigger question is how to got the powers that be to take seriously the theft of our wonderful motorcycles which we have worked bloody hard to purchase.

If someone is on your property without permission then it is trespassing, which I'm sure you all know.
You are allowed to 'defend' yourself by using 'such force that was deemed necessary' at the time.
So, if any little scrote tried to plead GBH/ABH against you, you would stand a very high chance of not getting any conviction against you.

As a side point, it also helps to know some basic self defence for defending yourself and to also put said scrote to the floor in a safe but painful way and keeping them there.

All this aside, think I may take a look into having a camera installed too..... thanks for the thread, it's an eye opener considering someone put a post up about theirs just being stolen.

Ride safe :beerjug:

Strikes me that you need two cameras, one aiming on the road outside, 'cos if they nick your bike out of the shed they might pop it straight into a Transit parked in the road, then at least the cops might have a clue what to look for.

Unlikely to be "a" scrote though is it...more than likely 2 or 3....and they would think nothing of harming you....look at those thugs swinging a grinder at those who tried to prevent the theft of that duke.

Bike Theft

A friend of mine came home last night to find two thieving bastards trying to remove the chain and disc lock off his CBR 600, they tried to escape on a stolen motorbike, but he managed to kick the bike over to prevent them escaping, One had an axe, but he ran off dropping the axe, the second one was caught and arrested, so that's one of them off the streets for a few hours at least, hopefully he will have given him some summary justice.

Presumably these cameras only work for Watercooled 1200GS's. :augie

Otherwise you'd have put the post in 'beakchat and bollox' so we could all benefit from the information.

A fair point well made and would whole-heartedly agree, if you have had no training, just make as much noise as possible to create attention to the situation.

From personal experience though, (2 scrotes tried to break into car) if you 'punish' one, the others run...

I have dlink they work pretty well. Like you say the number of thefts has gone ballistic. Including bike jacking and angle grinding in broad daylight. They are fearless! I call the the old bill on a super scooter in SW London with no plates checking out cars. Something has to change.

In Manchester after a robbery, the police told me to have a baseball bat ready and say that although it must have been the reflection of the moon on his watch, I was sure he had a knife.
AFAIK, if they come upstairs in a burglary you are "allowed" to hit them - hence need to park bike upstairs. And I would certainly take my time calling the dogs off.
I have to say, if the little fecker is smaller than me, they will not get off my land unscathed if I catch them. I cannot see a jury voting against a middle aged man of good character versus a gobshite.
