All vehicles now banned from Spanish national parks (?)

Banned from road or trails?

Did not really understand the message. Are the vehicles banned from trails, or did the national parks became vehicle free area? Are whole Pyrenees&Picos National parks or is this limitation only in selected ares?
There are still some regular roads in the parks, right?

Looking at the Bardenas Reales park website, they are giving recommendations of routes to be used by motor vehicles, so managing the use of vehicles in their park land.
I think there may of been a re-think by the park juntas as many folk visiting the areas with vehicles spend a lot of euros locally.
again, as mentioned, the initial bans have been due to irresponsible recreational motor vehiicle use. Sounds familar doesn't it!:(

I was in Bardenas Reales Park in July. Quiet a bit is still open and rode past a police 4x4 who just smiled, so assumed I raed it right.

cheers

The Bardenas Park Authority have welcomed responsible recreation motor vehicle users to the park, I was very impreesed when I rode it last Autumn, and I could see it would be easy for dickheads to venture off-piste forcing the authorities to issue a ban. :(
As long a visitors take notice of signage, and spend money locally, then we should be ok for a while there.

Nice place for a big trail bike ride too.......:thumb2

Oh yes - taken either on, or at the side of the trail even though it looks like it's miles form no where....

Those fluent in Spanish might read this document which I think is the national law that prohibits all motorised vehicles in Spanish National Parks.

I have since discovered that, in Andalucia at least, there is a mechanism through which you can apply for a permit to ride/drive through parks. I have applied for a permit for Tossers-in-the-Tejeda V but await to hear the outcome of my application.

Greg

Can someone clarify if this applies only to non-tarmac roads as we are heading for northern Spain in June and planned to ride through a couple of NPs.

I don't think that the surface of the road makes any difference .....

My clear understanding is that, unless there is a specific exemption or you have a permit, no motor vehicle is allowed in any national park in Spain.

I have personally witnessed the Sierra de Tejeda being patrolled by the Guardia Civil (the federal military-status police force) - fully tooled up and on trail bikes - and I am told they take a 'no messing' approach. Four-figure fines, bike and personal impounding too.

There is a permit system in Andalucia and I have applied to Seville for a permit for Tossers-in-the-Tejeda VI.

If that is the case Greg you have to ask the question why lay a tarmac road through a NP if you won't allow anybody to use it, and surely the point of a NP as an area of natural beauty is to attract people to it for leisure? :nenau Hey ho.

Tarmac is easier on Janet Street-Porter's feet.
