I'm partial to a bit of arsing about and making stuff for the bike (or attempting to). Previously I'd been buying little sheets of alluminium from eBay - usually 333mm x 250mm and working out at nearly €10 posted from the UK.

Had a quick look on Google and found a company in Dublin called Amari (located in Fonthill Industrial Estate - just behind where Aldi, Smyths etc are opposite Liffey Valley).

So a full sheet (1000mm x 2000mm) cost me €75 including VAT and they cut it into 4 so it would fit on the bike. Good stuff too - NS4/H22/5251 which is what Vern recommended - tough and good corrosion resistance.

Not sure how good a price that is, but I was happy enough. Far better value than the route I was going.

Just thought I'd throw the info out there incase anyone else was looking. Or if anyone wants some 500mm x 1000 sheets drop me a PM - I have loads now!

I find that getting on the good side of the local scrap metal merchant pays dividends.

I don`t think you have paid too much for that at all but as a scrap/offcut price I would have expected to pay £20-£30 for that little lot, from the scrap man, but you do need to be patient as it depends what has come there way.

Pop along and have a bit craic with them and they tend to `put stuff aside`;)

Enjoy fiddlin` :thumb

Similar here, except I get my offcuts from a local metal fabrication company. I'd used them for a few years for buying steel stock to make dog cages and thought they only used steel, until I noticed some ally sheet when I was raking through their scrap piles. Of course by that stage I was a good customer, so some stuff I get to take away for a donation to their coffee fund. :D

Amari is a great supplier, also Impact Ireland for Box, angle flat round etc.
I am spoiled i have a sheet metal company nearby.
