Can any one advise me how to clean a alloy top box and do you need to treat them whth any thing to protect them from the elements, Adie :nenau

Just a wee drop of ordinary polish (Autoglym etc.) works wonders Autosol if it's really bogging. Then a reasonable coat of wax will make it fairly easy to clean.

Aluminium has a very high resistance to corrosion . One reason for this is that Aluminium is covered spontaneously by a thin but effective coating of oxide which protects the it from further oxidation.

The Aluminium oxide is impermeable and is integral with the base metal. It's also dull so continual abrasive polishing of your box may not be the best course of action. :blast

I just spray my alu boxes with FS365 and wash 'em with Muc-off, rinse then dry with a soft cloth.

I was a bit worried the first time they got a serious coating of water and road salt cocktail (they looked dreadful) but once washed they were fine.

The FS365 seems to work everywhere ... this is the third year I have ridden a bike throughout the winter, and so far no ill effects ...

Cheers

Paul
