Hi - anyone had any joy getting 1100S alloys to fit 1150 GSA using the original speedo

Regards Stuart

I have a set of K1200RS wheels fitted to my GS...the 1200rs has the speedo pickup on the rear wheel as well...

The speedo was one of the biggest issues...basically, the internal diameter of the F/N/S hub had to be machined out to allow the wheel bearing to be recessed and the speedo pickup off the 1150R or RT to slot in..

It's certainly do-able, but it would be much easier to get a set of wheels off one of the two bikes mentioned in para. two...:thumb

If you need any further advice, just ask...plus, if you need parts for your conversion, get in touch with 'Nord' at Motorworks, he's up to speed on the bits required...

HTH

The S wheel has an electronic speedo pick up, the GS is mechanical, as above, a bit of machining to an S wheel will allow the mechanical bit to sit in and hey presto......but I imagine unless you know of someone capable of doing it, the cost if the wheels and work may well add up to something approaching the kit that Motorworks do (or did).

Out of curiosity, has anybody tried a spoked wheel off an R1100R, or R850R onto a 1150GS? If so, any issues. This way seems a little cheaper than a complete set of wheels, just not as smart.

I take it you mean to use the same hub, just rebuild a wheel with new spokes and rim....?

Never heard of anyone doing it, the BWM spoke wheels are not easy to build due to the spoke layout for the tubeless tyres....I do however stand to be corrected on that one.

The reason I say this is the fact that when I had a couple of spokes snap in a rear wheel, It had to be replaced under warranty as the dealer couldn't find anyone to get it right with the new spokes...

Dogs back Leg comes to mind...:D

I've TKC's on my 1100GS and I recently got a set of 1100R cast alloy, I was thinking it might be nice to have the handy option of road tyres by swapping wheels depending on the spin. Will the wheels (front in particular) require any modification to go on, will my callipers suit etc ?? :nenau
Speedo packed in months ago so I'm not worried about that aspect.
Thanks in advance. :thumb2

BTW, I know I could ring Motorworks tomorrow but I thought you lot would know better. :augie

Im about to order 2 new rims for some wheels i have, an 18" for offroad tyres and a fat 6" rim for 17" road tyres and lace them onto the 2 spares hubs i have lying around.

With the stainless spokes /nipples & rim cost it works out about the same as the cast wheels but without all the speedo / disc issues.
