Not read the whole thread so maybe someone has already said it but traveling solo is great, there are lots of advantages, but there are also down sides too.
I spent 3 months-ish on a solo ride to Mongolia and Siberia this year. It was a trip of firsts: first moto trip, first solo trip, first trip of any kind really. It was the furthest I have ever been, hardly been abroad, in fact the the furthest from home was a package holiday to Greece - with family. So I was well out of my comfort zone.
The biggest thing I can say about travelling alone is that you are more likely to connect with other people and this is usually what makes adventures great. As a solo traveler you have to make more of an effort to stop and meet people. But you are more approachable and you are less threatening so people will come to you. Your vulnerability, especially as a biker, sparks something deep and innate in others that makes them want to connect with you.
When things go wrong, and they will, don't worry, this is when the adventure really starts, you may have to completely rely on others and this means opportunity. Have an open mind and be willing to go with the flow, see where the situation takes you. Drop any paranoia and irrational fears as soon as you can, you'll begin to enjoy it all much more and much sooner and you'll be more open to the possibilities.
You might get lonely, you might wish someone was with you to share the moment, the burdens and responsibilities. But as a solo traveler if you want the company, security and or practical advantages of others, even if it' s only temporary, you'll find it. You'll almost always meet other travelers no matter where you are. You'll be surprised how many there are out there doing, thinking and feeling the same as you. If you want comrades, they're almost always available, if you make some effort.
Bon Voyage
PS: if in doubt check out the Hubb communities section, they're a great way to hook up with locals. Likewise, try out couch surfer, the tent space section at ADVrider, and try staying at hostels or home stays from time to time. Craigslist could also be a good tool. (Watch Craigslist Joe to see what I'm talking about)
