Alpina wheels for Africa Twin

....it maybe a bonkers idea but hear me out.

Why not run the spokes to a slightly wider stronger rim edge, that way you can have spoked wheels and no air sealing problems

Because with wheels like that and a complete set of panniers, it starts to look like an inferior version of the best selling German bike and that would just not do !

BMW and Honda CrossTourer, have them...................Ta-Da

I think these wheels in Post 1, are not a long term solution because.....

O Ring rubber perishes

Spokes corrode

Rims corrode

Maybe ok in the short term..................but after a few years??

The only spoked wheels that work are the BMW Behr type/S10 flanged or Honda Crosstourer type or the DID/Morad flanged Trials rims

That way the air chamber, has no contact with the spokes

People have been trying to seal conventional spoked rims for years (especially in Trials applications) with

HD rim tapes

O rings on spoke ends

Sikaflex on spoke ends

None seem to work.............longterm

Look at AndyB's recent experience on his 1190 KTM - rear tyre losing pressure of its on accord:rolleyes:

I said in a previous post O rings....that was to make it simple for everyone. But they aren't ordinary O rings....but seeing as no-one can be bothered to read the actual specs of the wheels, I'll let everyone bang on with their opinions.

Buy'em and let us know how you get on:D

Davy F

I bought a pair of these wheels but when I unpacked them the two hubs were separated by a sheet of corrugated cardboard. As they came direct from Italy the two hubs had been touching each other for a 1000miles, marking the anodising. I was offered a small discount or a new set of wheels. The factory is shut for August so replacements would be weeks away and although the damage was small I didn't want damaged parts to start with.

Karl was very good and refunded all moneys in full without question. The packing problem was not Alpina-UK's fault.

You may be able to buy them discounted, black rims and spokes with red hubs.

I've had alpina wheels on my 950 adventure for about 6-7 years now (had it for 10).
No problems to report, would definitely get another set.

I posted pics in another thread, but for those reading this one, here they are. :bounce1

As I mentioned in my earlier post, they are very similar to the wheels on Moto Guzzi Stelvios. I never had a problem with them in five years of Stelvio ownership.

But quite a number of people did

They look superb Davy F, if I ever get an Africa Twin would be first mod.

Dont know how many spokes in an AT wheel, but each one of those tiny little o rings is a failure point, one on those leaks and I will wager you end up putting a tube in it. Which defeats the purpose.

Why not save your money and use the OEM perfectly adequete wheelset already fitted.........use the saved cash for fuel and trips........

32 spokes oe rear, 36 spokes Alpina rear. These aren't a new thing, been on the go for quite some time. Plus the O rings aren't ordinary O rings.....and it's not like they can't be re-built when it comes down to it.

I bought them because they're pretty damn nice and also I prefer the ease of fixing a puncture in a tubeless wheel....and I'm not worried about saving the cash. ;)

These are the wheels that come as standard. :blast

That's why.
