Over the past couple of years I have been looking on and off for a light weight glove for off roading.
For me it had to fulfil the following criteria (in no particular order):
I said in no particular order but, actually, protection comes at the top of the list and I've been prepared to compromise on some of the other requirements for this, but not much.
Unfortunately I've not so far seen anything I liked the look of. The majority of 'off road' gloves do not IMO provide enough protection for road use and gloves that did were invariably too bulky.
Well, browsing in HG today I came across the Alpinestars and I think I have found (my) holy grail as far as off road gloves go.
They have some serious protection with hard armour on the knuckles and heavy leather across the back and wrist bone area. The palm is very soft, supple leather and all other areas are either suede type material or the more usual mesh you find on off road gloves.
They would appear to satisfy all my requirements and whilst not quite as light weight as a normal off road glove they are plenty light enough and without even having used them yet very comfy, like a second skin
The only down side is their price, £75, but hey they are there to do a job and look like they have every chance of doing that.
I'll come back later once I've used 'em and crashed in 'em a bit and let you know how they are getting on.
Anybody else use them, what do you think of 'em?

For me it had to fulfil the following criteria (in no particular order):
- Lightweight
- Good feel
- Withstand getting wet and muddy
- Offer a high level of protection both off road and, more importantantly, on road when riding to the trails
- Be suitable as an all day road glove in hotter climes
