Silly schoolboy preventable errors aren't exactly encouraging to bikers starting distance overseas touring!
As a further point of interest, you can to get back into the UK via Ferry or Tunnel from the continent without any need to d!ck around playing with embassy Hitler's in Paris or anywhere else.
Local Police report of lost/stolen papers for UK immigration officials at Calais or any sea exit point to the UK, and a photo card license if that's not lost/stolen or a emailed/faxed copy of your passport if you have done that. At a push even your bike/vehicle registration can get you back and your ferry booking details if you've pre booked your return. Also helps if you pre warn your ferry or the chunnel operator if you have no passport ;-)
