Took my bike to Steptoe's for the pre-tour look over, and got talking to him about last year when my belt failed in Germany, the layby where it happened is my Avatar, and how it took me over 2 hours to change it,with the removing of the luggage to get to my tools, the removing of the Crud Catcher, the removing of the H&B bolt behind that joins both sides together, and did I mention that it was pouring with rain, and that I cracked & broke a section of the cover off when I replaced it, as the H&B bars are so close to the cover.
Neil just looked at me pityingly and said ...." Why don't you cut it in half...It's not meant to be waterproof." I hate those moments, it's so simple why didn't I think of that. So I did....
To get the cover off in one piece I had to remove the seat and tank, and loosen the bars...thank God I didn't have to do that beside the road.
Marked the cut and Jigsawed it
Shamfered the interior supports and the sides to give it just a little more room
Fitted the top section first above where it normally sits and slid the bottom in to it's position
Siliconed it to give that little extra.
In position with everything attached.
Before I Siliconed it, I put the bars and the Crud Catcher back & tried to take the cover off with them on.It came off and went back on as if by magic, it's now a 15 min. job.
As the Meerkat advert says ..Simple. So why didn't I think of it.
