I wasn't happy with my Altbergs, barely over 30 years old and the sole needed re glueing.
Is that acceptable after only 160,000 miles?

My fault though, I tried to get them off without undoing properly one tired day

💪. Proper boots you buy for life

Totally agree... and, bizarrely I actually enjoy cleaning and re-polishing them...
Same here. I think these have been waxed/cleaned more times than I have worn them.

The ONLY reason they are for sale is my feet seem to have grown these last few years.... I will be replacing them with the same with size 10.

I remember you gave me a left one of these boots as you lost the right one😂😂
Altberg made me a right to go with it. I wore them every day for a few years. Gave them to my brother in the end 😁
Did he find the right and get a left made then?

A pair of boots with a great back story 😁

My Altbergs have not been a particularly good buy. Just 5 years old this week. Been resoled three times, new rand last time. The leather is splitting on both boots where they crease. I won’t be buying Altberg again. The leather started to split after around a year of use. Altberg didn’t want to know. Offered to fit a taller rand to cover up some of the splitting. They then charged me for said rand. When I questioned the leather splitting I was told I was walking too much in them!! They’re walking boots FFS how can I walk too much in them?
I’ll be going with Meindl for my next walking boots, I’ve two pairs of Meindl chainsaw boots and both are very comfortable. My oldest pair are around four years old, get worn almost every working day and are not splitting, don’t need a new rand and are only just getting to need resoling.

Maybe they thought you were just a bellend and didn't want to help :nenau
Well they offered to fit a higher/taller rand? Strange option really as it wouldn’t fix the splitting leather. They have been treated with leader Gris everytime I have used them and have been very comfortable the longevity is the problem. I’ve had Asolo, Meindl, koflach, Scarpa, Solomon and a few other boot makes over 50 years or so of mountaineering, fell walking, forest working etc and Altberg are the only boots that have started to fail after such a short period off use. I have probably walked around 3000-3500 miles in those few years of Altberg ownership and comfort, waterproofing etc have been great, just poor quality leather
As I said I won’t be buying that make again.

This happened before the boots were 1 year old. They’re now just 5 years old but I’ve not used them as much the last year. Coming up for resoling again but probably not going to happen as I’ll use them up then buy some new ones next year as I move toward retirement. As I said they have been very comfortable with good foot and ankle support. Shame really as I would like to support a local company.

When my boy joined the police almost some 4 and a bit years ago now I took him to Altberg to get him measured up and buy him some decent boots. Ended up with the Sneaker Aqua so not the heaviest weight boot they make for coppers but a good light but strong and waterproof boot

They have seen 4 years of abuse on the job - rarely polished ( cos he is a yoof at heart) the soles are worn thin and the leather looks a bit tatty but could no doubt be salvaged with a Altberg refit.
I have just bought him a new pair of the same and I will be urging him to send the old ones back for refurb

The fact that they have lasted as long as they have ( you have to know my son to appreciate how hard he is on things) is IMO a credit to Altberg

PS Thread Hijack but the best of intentions

Looks like those boots need a damn good clean... For my Altberg walking boots... they get the laces removed, all dirt scrubbed off, air dried then a couple of thick coats of leder gris clear... keeps them waterproof and supple (no cracks on mine)... just sayin'
