My Daytona Roadstar's are a bit knackered - a hole has developed in the heal of the boot where my Rukka trousers have rubbed through the leather. The Altberg Clubman Roadsters got a good review in a recent test.

Has anybody got any experience of these particular boots? I know a lot of folks on here use Altbergs, but from what I can gather it's normally the hiking boot style that are chosen.

yes

they are not too good in the style stakes but are warm enough and waterproof with good protection.:thumb2

Daytona will refurb your boots - I had my GTX's re-soled, re-goretexed and retreated for £130 inc P&P - They are now Just like new again!

I have both:P for pure riding the Daytona is the better boot. But the lace-up Alts are better for general purpose.

.........I know, but the upper is fekked.

I've used my Altberg Clubmans for 10 years now. Strong, comfortable, dry, can walk in them happily, great service, they will make to your foot shape, keep winning awards in Ride magazine. Downsides are that they do look a bit heavier than the latest plastic boots, and have less feel than racing boots. For me, the quality of build, longevity and the service and rebuild opportunities make them perfect.

Much like the 1150GSA!

I've had my Altberg Clubman Roadsters for quite a few years now. Not stylish but 100% warm, waterproof comfortable and very well made. My other half took them back to the makers in Richmond after I wrecked them in an accident. The guy apparently looked in disbelief at the state of them:eek: but when he examined them closely he discovered he had made them originally.
They were completely refurbished/resoled/new lining/bigger patches/good as new and she got a bill for only £37-00:thumb
Only downside was I had to wear them in again.

:nenauHe must have enjoyed the challenge:nenau

If you don't mind the wearing in period (about a year :() and the 'lack' of style then try Altbergs

Got a pair in my locker... but the Daytona's win hands down, and are comfortable straight out of the box .

Just my personal view ;)

I have Altbergs and they perform - waterproof and warm, and OK you will not end up in any fashion show.

Just beware the ordering period as they are not stock items. This can be 12 weeks  but worth the wait if you're not in a hurry.

Not too bothered about the looks of the boot (within reason). They're hidden under my trousers anyway. My current Daytona Roadstars aren't exactly flashy - they're a bit like wellies.

I'm really bothered about them being waterproof and protective.

As for ordering......Silvermans appear to keep them as a stock item.

Having had both, the Daytonas are more comfortable for a long day, but Altbergs are well made and certainly last. Mine were waterproof for about 8 years of fairly hard work.

I've got a pair which I've used almost daily for the past six years. Believe it or not, they still don't smell, they are still waterproof, and they are the most comfortable pair of boots I've ever owned. The soles are still in good shape and there is not a single stitch that's come loose.

They have also protected me in a crash that wrote off the bike. A weekly clean with Altberg's Leder Gris and the boots come up looking new.

I cannot recommend these boots highly enough.

PS: Steptoe, I'll be having words next time I see you :)

I have to say that I found Altberg's customer service to be very poor. They are right odd balls on the phone and didn't even reply to some of my mails.
And as for the 3 month wait - they weren't worth it at all - got a refund - eventually.

Old fashioned company making old fashioned products - they'd probably take that as a compliment  time has moved on - there's much better out there.

My Clubman Roadsters are brilliant. I was warned about the break-in period but found they were extremely comfortable practically from day one, did feel a bit chunky at first when operating gear lever but lost that feeling in the 70 mile ride home. I can wear these boots all day, including taking long walks round town, winter or summer. Ridden in torrential rain on many occasions and they've never let a drop of water in.

Like a previous poster I too wrote my bike off, the left boot got badly damage in the heel area. Altbergs completely refurbed the boots including replacing the leather on the heel, leather covering the zip, resoled, new Goretex liner, insoles, and velcro as required, returned to me like new and all for less than £40.

Never had a problem with customer service either, always found them polite and responsive, and return calls promptly if required (never tried emailing them though).
