To be blunt I'm finding the bars on the GS are giving me a pain in the backside ..... literally (no puns needed thank you)

Having long arms I'm tending to lean back rather than upright as i would like, this is giving me a numb lower back...

I have tried rotating the bars into as many positions as possible but cannot get then far enough forward..

Do any of you highly knowledgeable folk out there know of any stock handle bar options that are available.... rather than the route of getting them made.

The Dia at clamps is 28.2
At the controls 22

Regards

Similar problem, I'm 6' 1" and have found that being too upright gives the same problem, I really need to be leaning forward more, distributing my weight more evenly between, arms, feet and bum. I'm sure a sports tourer position is more natural for long journeys.

Have you tried sitting further back using the pillion seat ?:thumb2

......... i thank you...... i'll get me coat !!

Try the seat on the high setting at the front and the low setting at the back. I find this suits me for two reasons: firstly I'm not sliding forward thus arching my back and crushing my nuts against the tank, and secondly it gives me a lovely smug feeling knowing I'm disobeying an instruction in the handbook.

Your profile says you have an R1200GS but not which year - the later years have the ability to rotate the bar mount so that the bars themselves are slightly further forwards and slightly higher.

Edit: The next option would be something like Rox Risers instead of different bars

I found this when I got my GSA and as said above putting the front of the seat on high and the back on low made it a completely different and comfortable seating position.

Are you sure it is the bars and not that the seats are just so b***y uncomfortable?

Many thanks for all the comments ..... I'll definitely try putting the seat on different front/rear settings

Regards

Given the number of aftermarket accessories of every other sort for the GS, I'm always amazed that there just doesn't seem to be much choice of alternative handlebars that would just drop in without requiring any hacking about.

I had a demo for a whole weekend before finally deciding on the GS .... not even the mearest amount of arse ache was detected.

Now 3 months on it's a different story .....

I have had a almost identical problem with my MG 1200 sport, the bars on this like the GS change dimension before entering the controls so getting these off the shelf was always going to be a problem ....

The only saving grace is that MG is part of Piaggio and these dimension bars are used on about six different models, so it was fairly easy to find a pair that fitted my unique physique.

Doesn't help in this case though ....

Regards

I get a pain in the butt too but I put it down to the pillion seat ridge where it sits higher than the rider seat (I use high at the front and low at the rear).

I notice on the pics of the 2010 GS that the pillion seat has been lowered to the same height as the rider. I'm going to be trying one in the New Year to see if it helps the problem.
