Alternative seats , Sergeant etc

Ok I've just done 4500 miles around Europe and think the seat on my 2016 GS is a lot better than previous models. However, I still think its poor seat. So
what are the alternatives ? and anyone have any views/experience of them.

I'm now selling my GS as I just could not get the right seating/grip/riding position - I tried 4 seats and two sets of risers, but just could not get comfortable, and that is so important if you actually want to use the bike.

I'm currently selling the Corbin duel seat I had last - but I've answered this in posts before I ever decided to sell the bike, so it's not a sales ploy. In order of comfort I found them in this order:

1. Corbin
2. Sargent
3. Touratech
4. BMW original seat

Not too surprisingly they go in that order prices wise also, they were all different, I went form one to another slowly going up in price, but still did not get the comfort I wanted, so have just bought a K1600 GTLE. This is not a reflection on the seats - we are all built differently, so you may do as I did and try a few before you get the one that is right for you, just try to get them second hand as if I had done this with new seats I'd be down the best part of a grand instead of perhaps £20 a seat plus postage?

I have changed my standard LC seats for the Exclusive Comfort seats (with the grey sides and GS logo on the front of the rear seat. Slightly more "gel" feel to it - firm-ish, but feels the same for many miles. I'm happy and so is my pillion.

None of them gave me trouble there to be honest, I just got tender buttocks after a while, so started to squirm a lot and lose the pleasure of the ride as I was distracted by the discomfort - All I can suggest is try different seats till you find the one that suits, if you can borrow one for a couple of hundred miles from someone local all the better? The Sargent and Corbin are by far the widest and more generally supportive, particularly at the buttocks and front of your thighs, the Touratech by comparison is only just wider than the original, and not much of an improvement to me - but again - for some it will fit perfectly?

Same here, though I'm getting evidence that it's actually a rash causing my discomfort, possibly caused by lack of wicking away of sweat.

Try seamless underwear like tight boxer briefs - the ones that look a bit like cycling shorts.


My issue was just too much pressure on by cheeks, if I was more lent forward it may help as the pressure would be more on my groin than my buttocks - but I'm selling the bike now, so hopefully I'll be better on the new one.

I'd agree with you on the first two James, but in reverse order. I found the Corbin to be all day comfortable but a bit wide making my feet feel less than planted at a standstill. The Sargent seat has been the best all round for me, but my bike is an earlier model and so the seats may be different. I think there's a big gap between the OEM seat and any of the after market seats though, can't imagine how BMW got it so wrong.

Wunderlich seat is really good. Took me 4 seats to get comfortable on my 08 GSA, this one was excellent out of the box - 1st attempt after the OEM. I consider myself lucky, because of this
