Was mooching round the boxer-design.de site and saw this;

With of us developed again, into the back tread bag
to insertable heating element (thickness 1mm) can
each motorcycle jacket „be heated “….
The original back tread remains here.
- To each on
-board plug socket connectable
- the heating PAD operated with 12 V becomes after shortest time approx.
37 degrees Celsius warmly.
Automatic safety temperature delimitation with 55 degrees Celsius
The radiating warmth distributes itself in the entire jacket and provides for a completely new driving feeling on the motorcycle in the cold season….
They need a 12V on-board plug socket (cigarette lighter socket) for the enterprise this product

Priced at €34.90

I already have a heated waistcoat, but if I was looking for something now, I'd consider this. I think it'd be quite effective.

Anyone got one?

Looks good to me. Is it best to have these things close to your skin? Wondering if the heat would get to me through the standard jacket thermal liner?

Any heating device like this needs to be worn over a thin wicking layer. If it's any further away from the skin it loses effectiveness.

Personally I get cold arms so the BMW waistcoat and other waistcoat or DIY devices aren't much use, the best IMHO (although more expensive than some) is the Gerbing jacket with heated body, arms and neck.

i'll only buy it if it vibrates "no not for that reason you perv" i need to lose weight :green gri

I spent quite a lot of money over the years on gadjets to keep me warm. Gell pads, heated waste coats and electric insoles with AA battery packs etc. Each time I bought something I felt I was closer to the ideal, but looking back I should have gone straight out and bought the Gerbing jacket with temp modulator. It warms me front and back, collar and sleeves. The modulator cuts down power consumption and I have yet to trip out the F800GS accessory socket.
It would have been expensive had I not bought it s/hand of e-bay but I would now be prepared to pay full price for one its that good.
As Tim says, the jacket works best over a long sleeve thinsulate type shirt over a vest, no jumper. I then have my thermal gortex liner and jacket over everything. With the heater set low the whole kit soon warms up nicely. It would be a cold blooded person who could take the heat if no temperature controller is used though.
Back to the original post, I tried a similar pad designed to keep new puppies warm (Again off e-buy). I found heat at the top of the back was not the best location, lower down over the kidneys is better. My experiments did convince me of the value of heated clothing and at 35 euros its not too expensive. The problem is once you find the luxury of heated clothing you will probably soon buy a jacket and the 35 euro will go a long way towards its purchase.

you can get these from Winding Roads or we will have a few at the Dirt Bike Show next weekend (adventure-spec). Ive not used one yet, but Martin at Windingroads is happy with them

Stupid question to some I'm sure, but.
When wearing a heated jacket liner do you take out the normal jacket liner or wear both? :comfort

The clue is that it's cold weather. :augie

Crossing Spain in winter you need minimum five layers if one of them is the Gerbing liner or six/seven layers if no heating.

My five layers are
- long sleeved wicking layer
- Gerbing liner
- BMW Phase Change liner
- Twat suit liner
- Twat suit outer

If it's raining I wear a Gore-Tex shell jacket on top. :rob

I may be off the market for a full heated jacket then as with all that on I won't be able to move! well maybe a vest ;)
