As per my last post. My Denso alternator has exploded and needs replacing. Going by the reputation of the Denso for it's side splitting abilities I'm thinking of fitting a Bosch (which I understand is less prone to this problem) instead.

Having spoken to Motorworks the wiring for the Denso and Bosch is different along with a couple of other bits to do with the charging.

Has anyone amongst the collective undertaken this conversion and would they mind sharing how they did it?

val imo keep it simple replace like for like,no messing with wiring etc and the replacement one will prob not go wrong, they dont all go wrong do they?

I take it you got the lower front shock bolt out then??

Not yet, I need to buy a heat gun. Thought I'l give it a go getting the bolt out with softened lock tight before resorting to an engineer. If it gets loose enough I might be ok even with the rounded shoulders on the bolt, assuming I can hold it in place ok.

Sadly it seems the Densos do mostly all fail sooner or later. Of the eight or so the guy looked at in the various boxes (yes the 12RT-12GS & 12Rs and so on, all have different wiring or regulators etc) It seems the Bosch is the obvious route to go down for longevity. Though I guess if I was to buy a new one the Denso would probably last another 8-9 years. But at nigh on £500......

Are there many secondhand/recon Bosch ones around? Are they model specific to only your model of bike (which is? I don't see it in the posting, not a bad idea to add it to your signature:thumby:) Are they used by any other bike manufacturers in any of thier bikes (i.e. Moto Guzzi use a belt driven model) which might open up the field for selecting/finding one?

More questions than answer I'm afraid.:)

I believe there have been a few on ADVrider that have completed the swop. I remember seeing a post where someone had found / or produced a short harness to convert from one to another. Buggered if i can find that thread though. Here are a couple of others that may be of interest - Link1 - Link2
