I get a whine from the alternator drive pulley on tick-over, don't notice it at any other time, it whines with and without the alternator belt on.

Is this normal???

Bike's a 2007 1200gs - belt was replaced last year, 10,000 miles early as I thought the belt was slipping.

Cheers.

How can it whine without the belt on????? it aint moving or doing anything without the belt on. I think you need to look else where then stop worrying and just ride the thing. Or flog it quick I have £100 cash waiting.

Looks like I read the post wrong ( achohol to blaame) still same applies .and my offer still stands!

The alternator's not whining, the drive pulley (the large one at the bottom that drives the belt that drives the alternator) is whining.

Same question - how can an empty pulley make any noise? Look elsewhere.

If you are convinced it's the pulley wrap some card & gaffer tape around it to absorb ringing noise. 100 to 1 it won't do anything.

The engine cover behind the belt carries stuff that may be making noise.

Perhaps the replacement belt was too tight and you've fecked the drive pulley bearings ?

Just a thought.....to cheer you up.
