Although i can change a tyre, fix a puncture, check the oil etc...

what if i need to sort my 8 after drawing water into the engine, or the clutch cable snaps or the brakes go to shit? is here anywhere that i could get this info, or is i a black art that needs learning as you encouter it?

I am not a complete mechanical bif and i like to think i can sort most problems i would like some official guyidance.

Also what would you take in the way of SPARES (not tools) for a big trip?

There seems to be oads of info for the 12, 1150 but noone seems to publish for the 8.

Shouldn't worry about it till it happens. When it does, post a question on here or on Horizons Unlimited and you'll get answers.

Where are you travelling? And for how long?

Just take the basics ... you cannot cater for every eventuality.

The problems that you envisage, plan for... will not happen...
... the problems that arise will hit you out of the blue, totally unexpected.

Spare tubes and rear pads :thumb
Make good friends with a good dealer, leave them your card details and wait for the parts to arrive.

There is not a problem that can't be sorted :thumb

Bike on the back of a passing lorry ... find a hotel or camp site, get any parts DHL'd out to you.

We did this in Mongolia ... sorted!

Enjoy and don't be putting the cart before the horse!

Now .. as it happens ....

You missed my last Maintenance Mayhem weekend - but I am actually presenting a little something at this year's HUMM at Ripley .. :augie

I'm also working on another project for Haynes at the moment, and exactly this sort of thing will be a large part of it ...

Should I organise a 'Rescue' weekend too?
