Aluminium Panniers

How do you best clean then. The salt on the roads has killed them over the past few weeks and they are covered in spots. Whats the best way to clean them ? Power tools and polish ?

Cheers

I don't bother trying to keep them all shiney and new looking - you would spend every weekend polishing them with autosol. Personally I just give them a wipe over with ACF50 in Oct/Nov when I do the rest of the bike - this will stop them getting any worse. Other than that I leave them to take on the look of their correct age and use. They are so easily scratched etc that it really isn't worth the bother IMHO.

Ok so they're starting to look a wee bit shit!

Give them a good clean and then polish them with Solvol Autosol or Belgom then they'll be lovely and shiny again unless the corrosion has caused deep pits in the metal surface in which case there will be dark covered patches after you've polished them.

To keep them looking good you need to cover them in copious amounts of ACF50, GT85, WD40, Scotoil FS365 from new and that should keep the corrosion under control.

ACF50/GT85 is probably the easiest if you don't want to polish what are basically bare metal boxes that'll soon get kicked and scuffed through normal use!

FP.

As above. If you're so inclined, polish with Autosol to get them back to what you want but then wipe over with ACF50 which is excellent protection against the salt and grime.

Some 'spots' on your panniers and you describe them as 'killed' ???

My offside Jesse took the front wing of a Mercedes van, it was a little 'tatty' afterwards, but I wouldn't have described it as 'killed'. Having said that, I don't remember any 'spots' on it either.

"Shiny Sinks" is designed for stainless kitchen sinks, available at supermarkets, then wipe - over with any oils and polish the excess off.

Panniers

Do some travelling and cover them with stickers!

Oh please Lord. Not again. Why not ask about oil whilst you are at it. :blast

Squeeze me ! :beerjug: You always that helpful :barf

Don't want them super shiny just to get rid of the darks salt spots. I took the stickers off them when I bought the bike as I hadn't been any of the sticker places !

Will try the recommendations that m&s
