What are the best aluminium panniers out there?
On the rtw traveler websites everyone seems to give the Al Jesse panniers the best write up, for build quality and durability.
What do you guys think?

Got some al jesse,s last year from Kiwi Bob (top bloke, really helpfull), much prefer em to the plastic system cases I had before,
Seem strong n well built (locks are the only let down, seem a bit naff :( ),
Easy to fit on and off bike, good carrying capacity, overall very pleased with em.

HTH.

after seeing a pic of Margus's after he had been pushed off sideways...i think my choice would be the caja sahels......

Matron, any chance of posting the photo so I can see what the damage was

Andy,

You will find a link to Tsiklonaut's thread here

There is a picture of the bike after being hit by a car in Poland.

Thanks for the link Aidan,
Its hard to know how big an impact they took, I guess I should see if he bought Al jesse panniers again or did he try another type?

spoke to mike o on monday about this very thread and asked his opinion...as i'm considering ditching the systems for aly ones
he said that he doesnt believe that his jesse's or tt would have stood the impact as well as the caja's
he's owned jesses and verns...and he reckons the caja's are almost as well made as the vern ones....i think water ingress was mentioned..but ..for diplomacy sake..we'll draw a veil over that one .......
the civil one is an agent for caja sahel...he will be able to give more info

Andy,

It was Caja Sahel panniers that Margus had on the bike. I have seen a pair fitted on the Civil Ones ADV and have to say that they look to be very well made.

:)
