I just bought an (BMW Version) Akra end can for my 2017 LC through eBay from a breakers in Leicestershire. I noticed that it didn't have the carbon heat shield, asked them about it ("it was damaged beyond repair") It's a Euro 4 can with unknown miles (given it's a 4, it cant be vast mileage I don't think) and it has "a 3mm dink". Haggling ensued.
Whilst haggling, I started phoning round for prices on replacement heatshield etc. Bahnstormer quoted what I thought was an eye-watering £118 for the shield, clamp, bolt and washers. So I phoned Performance parts - the UK distributor - who were VERY helpful but couldn't give me a price quote as they don't sell to the general public... and they don't list the exact part numbers for the Motorrad version of the can (which, incidentally, I think is the nicest looking of the three) But they put me onto the dealer that they believed would give me the most competitive price... "£182 for the carbon bit, £15 for the clamp, £6 for the bolt and £7each for the washers (WTF???)"
More intense haggling with the breakers and a deal was struck.
I tried a couple more outlets and BMW dealers and Bahnstormers couldn't be beaten. It's gonna take a couple of weeks to get the bits in but given the amount I've saved over a new can (Almost a visit to the gods at Hilltop) I think I'm happy - other than the marginal niggle that the breakers MIGHT NOT be %1000 straight and the can came from one of our brethren who has had their bike nicked. That said, they weren't showing VAST amounts of GSA spares on their page...

Now someone is going to come back with "you coulda got a heatshield from... at a lesser price":barf

So ...

Let me get this right ... you had a " niggle" that it might be nicked and You still bought it !!!

No.
It was from a breakers and NO-ONE (other than the breakers) can be 100% sure where it came from.
If the yard had been advertising any more than about half a dozen parts - all from the back end of a 2017 LC - I wouldn't have touched it.

If anyone who has had a bike nicked who's Akra had a tiny dink in it, and can describe just where that dink was, I'll be more than happy to work with the authorities to ensure justice - Even if that means I take a financial hit.

Are these the special platinum and diamond encrusted washers or just the usual run of the mill ones ?

If, they're the heat resistant ones, I'm sure someone on the internet will do them, for a lesser price.

Exactly my thoughts! Sadly, the heat shield cannot be sourced elsewhere but the Motorrad kit is all inclusive of fittings (for a change!) and it all works out cheaper than the manufacturers agent!

I've seen that Akra, thought it was way to expensive for a less desirable EU4 unit that has cosmetic damage and missing parts. Their £650 asking price was way to high. I have a carbon heat shield you after by the way

I don't understand why you'd spend the best part of £17k on a new bike, then scrimp and save a few quid on an exhaust.:nenau

Because everything is so expensive.

My bike cost me around £16,000. I've since spent another £5,000 in stuff associated directly with it in the past month. And I didn't even get a bloody exhaust!

Haha cheers,

I can see why people scrimp though. It can easily get out of hand and you'd be £25,000 invested before you knew it.

I haven't even booked the 10 Days BMW trek in Thailand yet !!
