Am I being too trusting?

Hi All,

As you may know from my recent posts, I'm a newbie looking for my first GS. I'm looking at a one from a fellow tosser - but here's where it gets a little complicated: the bike is at one end of the country, I'm at the other. By coincidence a mate of mine, en ex-biker, is down there and is going to look at it for me. If it matches the description (it looks like a great bike) I'm planning to basically agree to an electronic handshake and the seller has agreed to deliver it to me - well, deliver it to his brother in law, from whom I'll pick it up and with whom I'll deposit the cash.

I'm having a last minute panic that I'm being hopelessly naive and way too trusting. It does seem, though, that a lot of deals on this site are done in this way. I guess I just need some reassurance that I'm not being an idiot...

Cheers - Adam...

Hopefully you're not, but it does pay to be cautious..

I'd have a look at the guy selling the bike here......click on his name and have a read of the stuff he's posted....also do a search on him in FS&W and see if he's sold loads of tat, how smoothly it all seems to have gone etc.

At the end of the day, you've got a better chance of getting a straight bike from an established member here than you have from Exchange and Mart or some other online site or newspaper.

The mods will help you if we can, but our powers are limited and do not cover any legal stuff.....I'm about to send you a PM but as on any sale anywhere, ultimately, it's caveat emptor....Buyer beware :)

i also bought my gs frm a member here, and a cracker it is too :thumb2
however he was only 6 miles from myself, even so i still did not and nor would i ever part with cash until i had seen said bike and given it the once over. no matter if i knew them or not.
if your mate has given it a good go over (and knows what he is looking for:P) and gives you the thumbs up then thats some reassurance for you.
you would like to think that is said member was a well established member of the site then you should have no probs what so ever :thumb2

Thanks guys.

I have *no* reason not to trust the seller - I should make that clear.

I trust my mate to spot problems as well as I could and I will carry out HPI and police checks.

Cheers - Adam...
