Am I missing Something?

To the right of the right fork (whilst sitting) behind the plastic fairing whilst cleaning ( I never finished ) I noticed two places for screws and a ‘space’ what can only be described as where I could put a flask or something haha....

This is my first 1200 and never noticed that on the bike.

Can anyone spring some light?

I think i read on this forum that some kind of filter cartridge is fitted in that space and is connected to the fuel tank vent, which is required only for bikes in the USA.

That is correct....nothing to worry about, not for UK market. Nippy Normans will sell you a nice brace and bottle to store spare oil in this space should you be in deepest darkest France and unable to find any for sale in a low oil emergency situation ... ever again... anywhere!

I once had a bike booked in with a huge oil leak from the front of the engine. It turned out the oil bottle stored in that space was leaking. The previous owner hadn't told the current owner about the oil bottle stored there when he bought it

Funny, but I can see that being the sort of thing I would have done and went to go it it checked out. Knowledge is power.
