Am I Not Riding Mine Hard Enough?

My 2006 1200GS (2,00km on the clock), riding at altitude here in Jo'burg, is averaging between 45 and 48 MPG (only mod is Remus Headers, 'Y' Piece and Genesis Can).
Used in Traffic and Open Road.
Seems good to me - am I treating it too well.
What do people 'average'?

Just opted for the headers and can this week. A lot louder on the go but not too bad when idling in the garage. Filled up with fuel yesterday so will found out MPG later in the week. I was getting about 170 miles before the light came on with just the titanium can, so about 215-220 miles until nearly empty. Far too hungover to work out MPG. Its a 05 bike with nearly 7k on it.

I get 52-55 everytime - mainly "A" road twisties and Dual carriageway riding - 2004 10k. It is a yellow one .. and as has been well documented and researched, they are faster, handle better, more reliable AND economical

just ran mine dry, did 348 (mainly motorway) miles at an average of around 85-90 mph (2 roll bags on board) that was 19 past 0 miles range.

according to the above link thats 47.9mpg

i can live with that

I get similar, never less than 45 and up towards 55mpg, at the end of the day how hard can you ride them in the UK and keep your licence?

Interestingly I am getting slightly more MPG now that I've changed from stock headers/cat/can to Remus headers/'Y'/can - even though I feel that I am 'using' the extra performance (i.e. 'enjoying' the extra mid-range and sound).
