Can anyone help my peanut sized brain work this out... ?

I have a 12GSA (750W Alternator Output) and trying to work out what I can use in the way of electrics:

Here goes, I run normally with Low Beam, and spots ( All HID's @35Watts each ) In addition I want to use the :

  • Heated handle bar grips ( 2A Low / 3A High )
  • Heated BMW waistcoat - rated up to 3.5 Amps

If I run all these together with the Rear light / brake light / Indicators (LEDS), Will I flatten my battery?

If anyone can help ease my paranoia / warm my body parts by shining some light on this?

I can't do the maths but, on my vanilla GS which has a lower ouptut alternator than the Adv I run the following:

  • Dipped (35w HID)
  • DE Fogs x2 (55w each)
  • FF50's x2 (55w each)
  • Heated grips (when needed)
  • GPS (when needed)

I've never had any problems.

Given you use less current on your spots 'cos they are HIDs and have a bigger alternator I'd suggest your bike will have no probs what so ever :thumb2

PS Also still on the original batery after 2 1/2 years (Optimated) :)

Total for lights - 105W
Max for jacket - 42W
Max for grips - 36W

183W, no problem for 750W alternator, plenty to charge battery, run bike electronics and so on

Indicators and brake are 21W, all on is 105W, still no problem.

Watts = Volts x Amps.

Turn it all on Steve, it'll be fine.
;)

If it's not, the battery's faulty or it's not charging properly :)

Capacity

Your list adds up to less than 200 watts.
Even allowing for other incidentals, at 750 watts you have loads of spare capacity.

How fast does the alternator have to be turning to give out 750W ?

With all that lot switched on at tickover it might struggle a bit :nenau
