Is it too early for seasons greetings? :augie

So, whilst out doing some christmas shopping i stumbled upon some Peli style cases at clas ohlson.

I've got to say i'm chuffed to bits!

Tests so far - had my 20 stone mate standing on the one in the shop. There was a little bounce but no deformation which usually shows as white marks in this sort of plastic. This was flat and closed. We couldn't manage to prop him up to get him to balance for the sideways pressure test so that was only a sitting test. (And the staff asked us to stop or leave the store :nenau :green gri ) Again passed with no give or bounce.

Had it in the water tank in the loft over night - no leaks. (At this point i should add it does not have the automatic Gore-Tex pressure adjustment valve Peli's do so the manual valve must be fully closed)

They only come in one size (and colour) and that is a little larger than the Peli 1450 and a little smaller than the 1500. The dimensions on the web page are exterior ones. Give or take a few millimetres the internal dimensions are 39.5 x 32 x 14.5 mm.

It comes with two sheets of eggbox foam and two of the perforated sheets.

What does Peli have over these? Peli has metal inserts over the padlock eyelets, the automatic as opposed to manual pressure adjustment valve and the overall finish is marginally better on the Peli (though with a craft knife the rough edges left from the manufacturing mould can be removed)

What got me was the price - at £40 that's less than half what you'd pay for a Peli 1450 or a Storm iM2300.

On an aside Clas Ohlson has a good selection of tools at very reasonable prices if you are making a visit. They don't do online sales yet. (no, i do not work for them or have any associated interests!)

Fingers crossed one or both of these work -

Bit small inside though !

Depends what you're using it for - it's over 18 litres of storage. That's enough for my day to day shopping or packing for a weeks touring. Get a 20 litre rucksack and see how much you can cram in - i think you'd be surprised! :D

For me it's just great not to have to wear a rucksack - they make me feel restricted and make me less comfortable riding.

Best,

S

The point @rce was making, is that 39.5 x 32 x 14.5 mm is barely big enough for a couple spoons of water... we assume you actually meant cm? :thumb

:blast

A blonde moment :augie Good spot rce!

I`m planning to use a couple of Peli 1550 cases as luggage,I have one case at the moment but looking at that link it looks as though they are the same size.A phone call in the New year to confirm.I`m glad I didn`t pay full price for the Peli  £43 so if I buy one from your link and they work out good enough for my trips I will sell my Alpos cases.

Thanks guys

these boxes are just the sort of thing I've been looking for.

Cheers and Merry Chistmas!

I had a quick chat with Caribou cases and just for info they use the Peli 1550 cases or if you want the balanced look they reccomend the Peli Storm 2400 for the exhaust side and 2450 for the other. The dimensions on both are the same apart from the width.

Hello S long time no see. How the devil are you. I just wanted to say a big thanks for fitting the leds in my handguards. They are extremely effective and I have had a number of people ask me where i got them from. before pointing them in your direction I thought common decency dictates that I ask you first if its ok to give others your details. If you get few minutes to yourself gimme a call on my mobile I want to run an idea for a trip by you, see if you're up for it.

Cheers, Mark

P.S. The photo you have taken shows your bike with handguards/led's removed. Are they still ok?????

I buy loads of cases for my business as well as for our girlie biking tours. Take a look at

Not always the cheapest but by far the best service I've found, the SKB range have a lifetime Guarantee.

All the best Guys

Hi Lucia,

Welcome to the site and thank you for the link.

I think i may be in the market for some more boxes in the future - i got caught in the heavy snow the other day and some *%& undertook me (he had two wheels on the pavement!) and clipped my arm with his wing mirror. Unfortunately this was enough to put me over. Anyway the impact was taken between the engine bars and the top mounted box - not a scratch on the bike itself. Inspecting the damage the bars were a mess and after a bit work removing road rash burr the box is as good as new! Anyway should i get panniers this summer they will probably be boxes of the same ilk.

Safe travels,

S
