Anakee 3 for Me...

Had the factory fitted Tourances Ex's on from new and have done 5286 miles and the front is now slightly squared off and the rear center tread is non-existent.

So, having read loads of reviews I'm going to give the Anakees a go. I'm booked in with Chris Mullins for next Tuesday. All the info says that the Anakee 3 is for 90% Road and 10% trail. Well that'll do for me, although I've got a quarter mile up hill farm track up to the house that's about as far as I'm likely to get to off roading ever so I'm hoping these will fit the bill (which like everything else on the GS) is not cheap! £230 - ride in, ride out.

Anybody else got these fitted? If so, how are they baring up?

I just couldnt get on with that tread pattern, so went for 2's on Saturday. £210 ride in ride out.

What is wrong with the tread pattern?
just got a set fitted and balanced to loose wheels £200.00 Watling tyres Gravesend plus £70.00 for a new battery for the car as it died whilst at the tyre shop and fortunately they sell batteries.

Tyres

Got a pair of pr3s from local lad in Laurencekirk ( john Mitchell ) for £246 ride in ride out inc balancing. Did a first class job. Done 700mls so far and pleased with them but will never exceed the limits of any tyre anyway so can,t comment on the road holding.

Just did 200 miles today to scrub the tyres in took it carefully for half that distance they are quieter smoother turn in faster the bike seems more agile than it did with anarkee 2 which are good, first impressions are positive.

Anakee 3 fitted in June 2013 £180 pair, 5k miles later rear looks 50% worn, front about 75%. No issues on or off road, as good if not better than my old Tourances.

I rode up from York to Edinburgh on Monday, two-up with luggage in the rain. I had some very interesting moments when hitting any standing water with the bike anything but upright. The conditions were a bit extreme but they seem to enjoy a bit of aqua planing, just my thoughts.

Not used mine in the wet yet, as they were fitted at the weekend, but now they're scrubbed in, I got a chance to try them out properly last night. I am impressed.

Went up to Castle Donnington Race track yesterday for a Ron Haslam Race School course (which was brilliant by the way) and did around 220 miles.

Having (almost) got my knee down on the track, on the way home, I decided to put my new found confidence into practice. Prior to going my chicken strip at the back was around half an inch (which was half of what it was on the tourances) but by the time I got home it is virtually non-existent! The bike was firmly planted at all times and never once did anything to undermine my new found confidence.

I am so glad I made the change and cannot sing the praises of this tyre enough.

I generally fit two rear tyres to one front - why waste 50% of the front tyre tread?

I also don't get fussy about matching tyre manufacturers. The bike handles fine.

My tyre fitter never buys tyres he just uses the ones folks throw away half worn.

The bloke who bought my brother's Guzzi Breva said the first thing he would do is fit new tyres.
What the heck for?
Oh well the back is slightly worn and the front isnt new. Can't be too careful.

The back tyre had under 2000 miles under it and just showing a slight wear in the middle but still in great shape. The front was 1/2 worn but in perfectly good condition. What a waste!

same here chicken strips all but gone after first proper ride....great tyres with very predicable lean, if a little noisy at 60mph.

Anakee 3 stock on my new LC. Must admit I was a bit concerned as had been used to the old style tourances on the GS and was very confident with them. But so far so good - they are excellent, cornering on rails etc

(Apart from picking up a bolt on day one of ownership that is )

I have to agree with you to a point on rear. It does seem to move about a bit in the rain. I had more moments this week in Scotland on A3s than I have had on Tourance 1s in nearly 3 years. In the dry they are great but in the wet I'm not so confident two up it may be different solo in similar conditions.

Had A3s for over 8000 miles and still going strong. Rear's hardly worn though a little squared. Great tyres in rain or dry. Definitely replacing them with same.
