Anakee 3 for Me...

Just had a week bimbling around Scotland compared to the A2's which are planted regardless of surface the A3's do seem a bit lively on one occasion they did react to some cross banding and white lines but to be fair that was a new surface but it did make me a bit cautious from then on.
They are smoother and turn in faster plenty of grip athough you have to use a bit less counter steer to get a constant arc around the corner they are more sensitive to input.
I think i am going to like them:nenau

Rear noise

I just put my Anakee 3 on my GSa and they are very noisy over 50 mph, has anybody have similar experiences?

They aren't the quietest tyres, but the voices in my head are louder!:D

Having done a set of A3s in 5k front and back, i can say they were good tyres, certainly better than the Tourance, plenty of grip both wet and dry ( i think michelins are particularly pressure sensitive and BMW tyre pressure recomendations are not IMO the best for these tyres) but and here is the but once someone on here posted about the noise at 50 to 60 i started to notice it more and more to the point it was pissing me off !
the wear rate wasnt that good either as previously said the front was done after 5k so not being the off road sort i have gone for PR3 trails this time and they are way better than the A3s !!

I agree with the pressure sensitivity. What pressure are you running them at and whats your height/weight/loaded etc (but not inside leg as I dont really know you:D)

A mere 12.5 stone plus gear and 5 foot 8 and dashingly handsome

i ran mine at 2 psi over the BMW recomend for one up riding 38R 34 F which i found to be the best but 2 up with luggage the standatd 36f and 42 r seemed best

the PR3 trals seem to like this too

as an aside i use 2 different guages and take the average to get the pressure as the difference between them is 2 psi

That's a bit lower to what I have found. 2-up and luggage I'm on 3.0R and 2.6F according to the pressure monitors. I ran it at 2.8 in the rear and it felt a bit Squrmiy and the steering was a bit heavy. 3.0 feels better and the tyre seems to run a bit cooler and in the wet it feels better. That final point does run counter to the conventional wisdom but that's how it feels to me.
2-up, I used to run Tourance 1s at 2.8R and 2.5F and they were good.
I'm 6'1" and 15.5 stone and Mrs Bolts is 13.5 and 5'9". Although I have similar luggage needs as Giles, she has almost all the left hand side Vario for her Hair and face jollop :D

34F 40R with no pillion and luggage there is a whine at 50-60 mph hardly notice it with ear plugs.

Another moment today in the rain. The rear broke away as I was overtaking a car. Its a 1200 gs not an R1 FFS the rear should not 'spin up'! I don't think I'll be getting another set of A3s. I've got some Conti Trail Attacks in the garage, are they any good?

I have had Dunlop TR91s on for the last year. 8000 out of the rear tyre. I have to say that I have ridden through some epic weather in these and they have been great.

I think I saw a report in Germany recently where the new adventure tyres were pitched against the Dunlops and I think I am right in saying the TR91 came out top overall. Possibly not got the same turn in as some of the newer kit but then again, if on the edge handling is what you are after, fit a road tyre.

....and let's face it...some of us like a tyre that suits the "look" of the adventure bike...which IMO the TR91 does. B

Being fickle, I have usually tried out new tyres when it comes to a change but have stuck with the Dunlops this time around.

Hope this helps

Just returned from our tour in France having done about 2300 mls on the A3. I have swapped from the TR91 because I didn't get good mileage from the TR91 and the A3 was cheaper than the big block design tyres. It is a very good tyre make no mistake, well both of them.

In the dry fully loaded two up with camping gear strapped on the back there was no problem scraping the centre stand on the roads in those glorious 80 mph sweeping bends. Needs a bit more pressure like 3 bar R and 2.5 F to feel right when loaded and the steering is neutral, light and easy to place the bike accurately and make adjustments in the corners. Will need a track day to explore it further but no surprises at all on any tarmac road surface. Coming back it rained for the last day, we did about 400 mls in the wet. It cleared the water on the road nicely as can be seen in the rear view mirror when you leave a trail in the wet surface. Some parts of the French highway system had banding but nothing that upset the bikes handling except for one continues strip of repair that made the tyre move a bit when crossing the lane. To me that says more about the quality of repair rather than the tyre itself. Hardly any wear but when I looked closely I could see the 3D bits (triangles in the tread) indicating a little bit of wear but significantly less than what I have experienced with the TR91 after similar mileage albeit a 1000 more. See the photos of the tyres I sold to Sgt Bilco. Despite spending a lot of time upright and not sparing the horses on some roads the tyre has not squared off. Recommended and since I have PR2's on the R1100S and a friend is sponsored by them I might seen a bit biased towards the French manufacturer but I have tried all sorts and I stick to the tyre that feels right to me at a good price. I have to ride the bike a bit more on my own to get a feel for it but the impressions are positive so far.
