As per title… my 1250 GSA will be needing tyres soon. Currently on Road 6 (non GT fitted by previous owner) and have had no issues with them. 100% road riding.
Do I stick with Road 6 or Road 6 GT?
Or try the new Anakee Road or the forum fav Trail Attack?

Cheers

FWIW I for one wouldn’t have TA3s as a gift.

Not tried Anakee Road but hated Anakee 3, thought Anakee Adeventure was very average and Anakee Wild was good.

I’m a Michelin fanboy when it comes to road tyres. I’m running standard Road 6 on a V4 Rally. I like them…

There’s more opinions on tyres than there are on the market. Bad experience on Bridgestones for me a few years back, never bought a set since.
Probably bugger all wrong with them and sure they’re better than me but once it’s in your head.

Strong views on the Contis Richardbd, why is that exactly?

I’ve just stuck a pair of TA3s on my GSA had a couple of sets on my previous GS with no issues. I was tempted to try the Anakee Road but only as im a bit of a Michelin fan too, just at the moment I wanted something I knew.

Which ever costs less, they're all basically the same. No idea why the Contie has the word "trail" in it's name

I'm a fan of the CTA3 on the GS. i didn't get along with the Road 6 and swapped back to them. I liked them on other Bikes, but the soft carcass didn't give me the feedback & feel the CTA's do on the GS.

A pair of CTA3 (v-spec) i get for £280 delivered/£300 fitted.

Interested to know what everyone’s issue is with the road 6. I find them pretty good and wondering if the GT version would be even better with the weight of the GSA.
Also a Michelin fanboy in general, typically use them for cars bikes and now mountain bikes.

I found it gave no feedback at all. I couldn't tell when it was warmed up/ready to go, when it was close to its limits (braking, or acceleration). And in the wet it felt like it had no grip at all. The TC light flashing away at gentle pull aways, or overtaking when already pulling along.
My riding style is not fast, furious and gassing it everywhere. It's more smooth & progressive. The Road 6 did not handle/ride anything like the CTA3 in any weather, or road conditions.

On previous Bikes the 5 was my go to tyre, and my Cars have their tyres too. But for the GS, it's a no go for me.

Anakee in last place.
I dont like how they wear or grip in mixed conditions.
Road 6 are good. With a proven pull (very slight) to the left when new. You cant feel it, but take hands off the bars and it does happen..
Conti, highly rated…though I go for the Road version CRA 3 or 4. Probably had 9-10 pairs now and they offer superb grip in all conditions, wear well and also perform superbly to end of tread life. My go to.

I’ve never been able to trust TA3 since I watched a mate in front of me who was using them aquaplane and then somersault his GSA into a field as we left Ashkabat, en route for the Darvaza gas crater.

I’m sure there are similar stories for almost every tyre but I guess that’s how we build prejudices that help us to make decisions on stuff we know very little about. Bit like Lee and Lance and Fat Bloke down the pub…

Yeah that’ll do it.
Must have been terrifying, hope he was ok.
Like many things , it’s about confidence and belief, idea gets in your head it’s very difficult to see past.

Very, very few people on here are good enough riders to find the limit of modern road tyres. I had the Anakee adventures on my Rally pro. A puncture last year in Ireland meant replacing the rear with whatever was available. It happens to be an Anakee road and so far (around 3000miles) it has been a good tyre.

Remarkably, he was ok (saved by the field being ploughed and soft and the bike landing next to, not on top of him).

It was on a Globebusters trip and the van man and tour leader got the bike into the van and at the next hotel spent an afternoon rebuilding/realigning it. It (and he) subsequently made it to Beijing.

Different tyres though. For some reason he wouldn’t get back on it until the TKC80s brought along for the Wakhan Valley were fitted and the TA3 consigned to the bin. :D

My issue with Road 6's has been that its a fantastic tyre, brilliant handling and surety in the wet, but for some reason, I have picked up punctures on 3 Set's in the last 18 months (and others I know have had same experience, but perhaps not as often as me), I am now using Metzeler Tourance Next 2, which have been great on my 1250 GSA

I have no issues and put them on as soon as the tyres the bike came with needed replacing.
Btw, they were Anakees and the front had a real big puncture. Though this can happen with any tyre.

The Michelin road range of tyres have always been puncture magnets its something to do with what they call sypes and how they work but for me they just seem to suck in every bit of metal within 10 yards of where they are at the time

Michelin Road tyres started to be puncture prone once they adopted the tiny sipes. They attract small sharp stones. Think it was version 3 onwards where the problems started.
I had a similar issue with some tyres fitted to a small van, cant remember the make, but small sipes, two punctures in next to no miles…all in the skinny sipes.
It is one of the reasons I went Conti.

dunno about tiny bits but I picked this up
MAde 3 big holes - 2 where it went in and one through the side where the long bit came back out

The Michelin Anakee Road tyres are a very different tyre to the Michelin Road 5, 6 and Anakee 3. I've not tried them but I'll be needing new soon. Was thinking of trying Anakee Roads but don't know if I can force myself not to get CTA3's again.

Anyone on here tried the Anakee Roads on a 1250 GSA ?

Yes.
Squared off fast, not from motorway use.
Did not like them in damp conditions.
In context, have total confidence in Conti Road Attackk wet or dry.
