43 Mile commute this morning.

The automatic dipped beam failed.

Then the soft touch indicators failed.

Then the cruise control failed.

Then the left heated grip failed.

My last GS was a 2017 Rallye and the day after I got that it had a fork recall.

Let’s hope Vines / BMW agree it’s all under warranty.

Water ingress to left switch block? Does the bike stand outside for protracted periods?

A colleague keeps his bike(s) outside & he's had water in switches on BMW, Honda, Triumph to name just a few. He reckons a good spray with an electrical contact cleaner sometimes fixes the problem.

Why wouldn't it be ? :nenau

From the initial conversation with Vines this morning the response I got was ‘We can’t say if it’s covered by the warranty over the phone’.

It’s a 2019 with 6800 on the clock and I got it from Vines 4 weeks ago.

So I’m hoping that was just a blanket statement by the guy on the desk.

It’s outside under a cover. Only been in my ownership a month or so.

Mines on its way back from Bahnstormers as i type

Lh switch cluster replaced under warranty - sticking

One service & a set of rear pads

Well if it's not covered by the manufacturers warranty then it should be covered by the Used Bike Warranty and if it's not covered by that then it's down to Vines to cover. After all. You've only had it for a month :thumby:

Have you had the bike recovered to Vines yet ?

Reject it

I'm certain you have a month or 1,000 miles to return a vehicle to a dealer for a full refund even without a reason.

I'm certain they will agree to deal with this issue if you did this.

Sounds like you haven't got long left to do this though.

Shit advice, for a simple fix.
The dealer will want to inspect it, they then can accept your rejection or accept it. If they reject it (they will), you can go sometimes to mediation, but more than likely you will need to take legal action.

30 days

but also 6 months is the time frame.

sometimes can be over six months, but harder to achieve.

Agreed, but certainly not the start to GS ownership he was after!

no but that's why warranties exist.

Could happen to any motorbike or car. Its not what anyone wants, but a replacement switch (or just plugging the lead back in) would be far simpler.

Of course Vines cant say if its covered under warranty etc, they havent had a look at it.

I wouldn't be thinking about rejection until they've had the chance to fix it. I had LH switchgear failure on my K1600 within a couple of weeks of buying it (used). Called the dealer, they collected it, repaired it, delivered it back all within three days. A bit of a pain, yes, but all sorted and no recurrence once sorted.

You have a warranty, I'm sure it'll be covered if it's as you describe. Of course they're not going to confirm this over the phone. For all they know you might have broken it yourself, dropped it in the sea, bodged your own repairs, etc. You know you haven't done that, but they don't without seeing the bike.

Are you talking about rejecting a warranty claim or refusing a request to reject the bike?

I was nowhere near the Beach M’lud.

I told the dealer when i had my last warranty claim that the LH switch gear was sticking

They lubed it, and said if it sticks again it would be a warranty replacement -

It started sticking just before Christmas again -

When it went in for it's service today, it was changed under warranty

My post was written based on personal experience so I fail to see why it was deemed 'shit advice'.

Having bought many fairly new cars from dealers without driving them or problems previously I bought a two year Golf from a VW dealer.

Sadly it turned out to be a pile of abused shite so I sought advice and was informed that because I'd bought from a dealer I had 30 days or 1,000 miles to return it for a full refund for no reason other than I didn't want it.

My thoughts on reading of the failed switch problem and that the suppling dealer hadn't yet agreed it would be covered by guarantee was to suggest returning the bike for a refund.

If the bike was returned for a refund the dealer would need to repair and resell it so I would bet on them agreeing to repair it so as not to have it back.

Shit advice? I don't think so.

The used VW dealer guarantee is a separate part of the contract, allowing this, without a legal 'rejection'

its a simple fix and of course a warranty claim cannot be admitted over the phone.

There is no guarantee a dealer will accept the reject, and you may end up in a legal battle. You also dont know the circumstances of trade in, finance etc etc, or even if he got a really good deal on the bike, which he may not get again.

The best would be, get it back to the dealer. It can still be rejected later.

So yes hasty and shit advice.
