And now it won't start any guidance appreciated

Its a very bad short circuit ;)

So new side stand switch and coil pack but as it was corroded the coil pack isn't covered on warranty. My view is it has corroded after it has started to break down and blistered/overheated. It now stands with a "goodwill" application.

Mine were fat and smelly but checked out with a meter. BMW should know that - they all did that sir! Chuck both coils and be done with it. If you have a tame store person at the local motor factors you might find some car stick coils for 25% (or less) of BMW's charges. Dream on!

Goodwill application complete and BMW have supplied a new primary as it had actually failed and I paid for the secondary which was on its way out but not failed. So a new side stand switch and 2 coils and delivered home by BMW warranty recovery.

When I bought my replacement primary coil, North Oxford told me the other side would fail very soon. They all do apparently. Sure enough, my bike went onto one cylinder on the ride home. I went back to NOG and bough another coil. It's been fine ever since.

The secondary coils are original and seem to be fine. But they do not run and engine temperature. Ive just replace all four spark plugs.

the failing primaries were very hard to diagnose. They got worse as the engine warmed up and swapping coils left/right was inconclusive. Both were going down so no surprise it was hassle but not much fun when you are change faults.
