AND now it won't start.

Right, leaving for Romaia Thursday. Put some spares in a box under the tank (ABS space) and put some iridium plugs in. Took it for a twenty minute ride. Got back and it was pissing out fuel. Was just a f*cked o ring on a quick release fuel hose from the tank. Now I have no leak but no running bike. Help. Had to leave it tonight, got a couple of evenings and were off on our adventure!
 
Check for a spark at the plugs, then pull out the injectors and see if you have fuel there, it will narrow your line of attack by half- fuel or electrical

Just don't do both at the same time :eek:

And Neil, thanks for the pics (although I have some mechanical knowledge(but when I tell you what the fault was you won't think so ;) ))

I had a pretty good idea it was fuel - and it was.
When I finally got to fiddle with it again last night - as soon as I turned the ignition on and didn't hear the fuel pump prime I checked the fuse and there it was. BLOWN. B*astard thing.

When I finally got to fiddle with it again last night - as soon as I turned the ignition on and didn't hear the fuel pump prime I checked the fuse and there it was. BLOWN. B*astard thing.

When I started working on cars in 1978 I was told always to check the simple things first. In 30 years of running my business this approach helped many times. I could give countless examples including recovering a Citroen CX (remember them) from a main dealer. Car had been there two days and they had told the customer that it would cost more than the car was worth to get it to run again. This on top of what they had charged so far. I turned on the ignition, fuel gauge said half full but the fuel pump made a strange noise. Checked fuel, put in some, car started, replaced faulty fuel gauge sender unit!

The lesson is never assume it's something complicated/terminal until you have checked the simple things.

And, having replace thousands of fuses over the years, there are always a few that blew but no fault could be found in the system. Obviously if it blows again you have a problem, if not enjoy the ride and stop worrying.
